摘要： A jacket holder for holding a jacket wherein strips of microfilm are inserted into pockets formed in the jacket. The jacket holder comprises first and second plate members hinged with each other for holding the jacket therebetween. The first plate member includes a raised inclined surface portion at its one end portion with film strip inserting passageways formed beneath the raised portion and the second member includes a recessed inclined surface portion complementary to the raised portion. By means of the cooperating raised and recessed portions, the jacket held by the two members is bent at the portion where inlets for the pockets exist so that a film strip is easily inserted into the pocket through the passageway and the inlet. A system is also disclosed for automatically inserting film strips into the jacket pockets.

摘要： Microfilm is converted into microfiche by feeding the film through a cutter, cutting the film into one or more frames, and then mounting the frame(s) upon a transparent microfiche base. The microfilm has a pair of adhesive strips along the top and bottom edge of its bottom surface for attaching the microfilm to the base. The microfiche base is mounted on a fiche deck by means of registration pins; lights are provided below the fiche deck for informing the operator where to place the frames on the base; and a margin grid having guide bars overlies the base to aid the operator in mounting the frames in precise alignment on the base. The film cutter removes a slice from the cut frames to aid the operator to mount the frames.The microfiche is updated by mounting all "updatable" frames in the same row and pre-cut from each adjacent frame. A solenoid and its push pin are positioned beneath each updatable frame and a clearance opening for each push pin is located in the microfiche base. To update a microfiche, the proper solenoid is energized to remove one edge of the frame to be updated from the base, the frame is then completely removed, and a new updated frame is substituted for the outdated, removed frame.

摘要： A microfiche is formed by coating a transparent support sheet with a layer of transparent potentially adhesive thermoplastic composition exhibiting low adhesive tackiness at ambient conditions, but which is heat-activatable to adhesive tackiness, positioning microfilm image elements on the layer under a sufficient pressure to superficially adhere the elements to the layer, and bringing the thermoplastic composition to adhesive tackiness in the areas of the microfilm elements. Reheating the thermoplastic composition in the areas of the microfilm elements renders the elements removable from the sheet, thus providing for replacement of microfilm elements to revise or update the microfiche.
