摘要： A chill roll assembly for a printing press scrubs away boundary layers of air and vapors adhered to both side surfaces of a paper web moving through the chill roll assembly. The chill rolls are supported on separate frames which are adjustable relative to one another. Adjustment of the frames moves the chill rolls into and out of positions in which surfaces of the web sections moving in opposite directions around the rolls are held in closely spaced relationship to define a zone of interference. The boundary layers adhering to the closely spaced surfaces of the moving web sections are scrubbed away in the zone of interference.

The wires (6,5) are guided by guide rolls, which are placed in such a way that the paper web (W) is continuously supported by a wire (5,6) as it runs from one cylinder onto the other. The guide roll arrangements consist of fragmentary rolls (21,51), which are supported on suction boxes (20) and/or on blow boxes (50) so that at least two fragmentary rolls (21,51) are supported on each suction box (20)/blow box (50). By means of the suction boxes (20)/blow boxes (50), blowings (S,P) are directed at the drying wire (5,6). The blowings improve a support contact between the paper web (W) and the wire (5,6) and/or pocket ventilation.

摘要： A multiculer dryer in a paper machine, having several successive cylinder sections of which one or more are equipped with a twin-wire draw in a manner such that a web being dried is drawn unsupported between cylinder rows. A closed draw is used in section gaps in a manner such that a drawing or supporting wire of a preceding section is conveyed to contact a top cylinder of a following section at a small angle. A special section gap cylinder is used near the section gap, the cylinder either not being driven or which from a point of view of the drive, belongs to the preceding drying section. The drying wire of the preceding section is wound over the section gap cylinder, preferably over a sector greater than about 180.degree., this drying wire either being a single wire-wire draw drying wire or a top wire of a preceding section twin-wire draw. The web supported by the wire is guided as an essentially vertical run from the sector of the section gap cylinder to the top cylinder of the next section. There is an open space below the section gap cylinder which allows a waste web to be removed by gravity.

摘要： A method and apparatus for reducing the moisture content of wet yarns are disclosed. Wet yarn is supplied to a pair of internally heated drier rolls which contact and spirally advance the yarn along the rolls to progressively dry the yarn. Heat is supplied to the rolls at a rate in excess of that necessary to reduce the moisture content to a predetermined level. Water is sprayed on areas of the rolls not in contact with the yarn to cool the contact surfaces. The moisture content of the yarn is measured subsequently to discharge and a signal is produced which corresponds to the moisture content. In order to achieve a desired moisture content, the spraying of water is controlled in response to the signal produced by measuring the moisture content so that the yarn discharged from the rolls approaches the predetermined level.

摘要： An apparatus is described for maintaining a first and second lateral edge of web in close conformity with a dryer felt of a papermaking machine. The apparatus includes a first dryer drum which is rotatable about an axis which is parallel to the cross-machine direction of the web. A second dryer drum is rotatable about an axis which is spaced and parallel relative to the axis of the first dryer drum. An intermediate transfer roll has an axis of rotation disposed in a plane parallel to, and between, the axes of the first and second drums such that the web and the felt extend contiguously around the first dryer drum and then around the transfer roll and subsequently around the second drum in a serpentine configuration so that the transfer roll and the felt define therebetween a pocket. A first and second box are disposed within the pocket and adjacent to, respectively, the first and second lateral edges of the web for maintaining a partial vacuum within the pocket adjacent to the respective lateral edges such that the edges are drawn into close conformity with the felt which is disposed between the web and the boxes thereby inhibiting detachment of the respective lateral edges from the felt and subsequent wrinkling of the dried web.

摘要： A backing screen runs together with the paper web through the drying section of a paper machine. The backing screen bridges the space between the press section and the drying section. For threading the so-called transfer strip through the drying section there is a rope carrier provided whose ropes run outside the paper web width. Prior to its insertion at the entrance point of the rope carrier, the transfer strip, which is separated from the backing screen, is passed across a mechanical guide element which, sideways and from the outside, can be moved into the area of the backing screen and back again. The mechanical guide element is movable so that the space between the guide element and the backing screen is variable.
