    • In a hydraulic pump control apparatus and method of a construction machine, the control apparatus includes a pump control unit for controlling discharge pressure of a pump driven by an engine. The control unit includes: a pressure setting value calculating unit which calculates a pressure setting value based on an engine output torque estimating value or an engine RPM; and a breakdown treating unit selects one of the pressure setting value and a pressure command value according to a breakdown of the swash plate angle sensor to output the selected value. Since the pump is controlled according to a pressure setting value calculated based on the engine output torque estimating value, the absorption torque value of the pump does not exceed the maximum torque value of the engine even when the swash plate angle sensor breaks down, and related engine stoppage is prevented even during a high-load operation.

    • A straining device for a drainage pump, the straining device comprising a body defining an inner chamber; at least one straining element by which liquid may enter the chamber; and at least one outlet by which liquid may leave the chamber. The straining device further includes a liquid level sensor arranged to detect the level of a liquid in which said straining device is located during use and, upon determining that said liquid level exceeds a threshold, to cause an activation signal to be sent to said pump. The liquid level sensor comprises non-contact sensing means such as an electric field sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the straining device and arranged to project its sensing field upwardly.

    • A pump control apparatus includes an actuator that varies a discharge capacity of a pump, and a regulator that regulates a control pressure led to the actuator. The regulator includes: a driving pressure port to which an average discharge pressure is led; a source pressure port to which a high pressure side discharge pressure is led; a signal pressure port to which a signal pressure is led; and a spool that regulates the control pressure using the high pressure side discharge pressure as a source pressure by moving upon reception of the average discharge pressure and the signal pressure. A driving pressure receiving surface that receives the average discharge pressure is formed inside the spool, and a signal pressure receiving surface that receives the signal pressure is formed in an outer peripheral step portion of the spool.
