    • A fuel injector for a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The fuel injector includes an injector housing having a longitudinal axis. The injector housing includes one or more fuel galleries annularly disposed about the longitudinal axis, and a compressed air inlet. The fuel injector also includes a premix barrel having a proximal end and a distal end circumferentially disposed about the longitudinal axis. The premix barrel is fluidly coupled to the fuel galleries and the compressed air inlet at the proximal end and is configured to couple to a combustor of the gas turbine engine at the distal end. The fuel injector also includes a substantially cylindrical pilot assembly disposed radially inwards of the premix barrel having a first end and a second end. The second end is coupled to the injector housing and the first end is located proximate the distal end of the premix barrel. The fuel injector further includes a pilot liquid tube having a third end and a fourth end disposed radially inwards of the pilot assembly. The fourth end is removably coupled to the injector housing and the third end is located proximate the first end of the pilot assembly.

    • A gas turbine topping device, which is disposed upstream of a steam-raising section, is used for generating power in the manufacture of sulphuric acid. A sulfur-burning combustor generates hot sulfur dioxide while a pressure-exchanging ejector mixes the hot combustion gases with a cooler gas (e.g. pressurized air, pressurized N2 or recycled sulfur dioxide (SO2) to form a mixed working gas having a temperature below the maximum allowable temperature (metallurgical limit) of the blades of the turbine. The turbine drives an oxygen compressor which supplies oxygen to a bubbling chamber which also receives S8 to produce sulfur vapor for combustion. By using stoichiometric quantities, sulfur dioxide is delivered in requisite quantities to a sulfuric acid plant without any harmful emissions. Useful amounts of electrical power can thus be generated by the gas turbine topping device as well as the downstream steam turbine by harnessing the enormous amount of waste heat involved in the manufacture of sulfuric acid.

A load set point (L) of the thermal power plant is set by regulating the quantity of gaseous fuel fed to the combustion process. The thermal power plant is operated at a load set point (L), provided the gaseous fuel is fed to the combustion process through a gas line at a gas pressure pgas, with pgas>paction limit(L), where paction limit(L) represents a pressure value which depends at least on the load set point (L) of the thermal power plant.
