    • A printing press includes an interchangeable plate cylinder, in which the plate cylinder may have variable cutoff diameters. The plate cylinder is mounted in the printing press in rolling contact with a fixed diameter blanket cylinder. The ink rollers of the inker mechanism may be positionally adjusted to accommodate a plate cylinder of various diameters. The surface of the printing blanket which is mounted on the blanket cylinder includes a material of low polarity surface energy, such as PTFE. The ink used in the press is selected such that, in combination with the PTFE of the blanket surface, the ink does not remain as a latent image on the blanket cylinder after transfer of the image from the blanket cylinder to a web of material.

    • The invention relates to a printing process, such as lithographic printing, that requires a printing press and a colorant vehicle. To enable constituting and rapidly removing motifs to be transferred to a printing medium, a hardenable material having good affinity for the colorant vehicle is deposited automatically and directly onto a device that cannot be dismantled or detached from the press, i.e., is part of the press, and that is constituted of a material having an opposite affinity, so as to constitute the motifs to be transferred to the medium. The material constituting the device is such that the material can be removed rapidly when the motifs are to be changed, and is such that new motifs can be constituted there immediately after the removal of those preceding them.

    • There is provided a printing blanket having no seam in the circumferential direction thereof, which realizes high quality of printings in a wide range from normal printing to high, speed printing, and which has high strength to facilitate the handling and prolonged life, thus enabling the reuse of the sleeve and the like. Specifically, on the peripheral surface of the cylindrical sleeve 21, the base layer 1, the compressible layer 2, the non-stretchable layer 3 and the surface printing layer 4 are laminated by interposing the adhesive layers 31, 32, 33 and 34, respectively. All of the above layers comprise a seamless elastomer. The non-stretchable layer 3 is prepared by winding a wire rod in helical fashion.
