    • A method for treating a metal element for an automobile includes hardening the metal element so as to obtain a press hardened metal element. Scale from the press hardened metal element are removed by placing the press hardened metal element in an ultrasonic liquid and preforming an ultrasonic process thereon so as to obtain a de-scaled press hardened metal element. The ultrasonic liquid is an aqueous solution comprising an organic carboxylic acid in a concentration of from 0.1 to 10 vol.-%. The de-scaled press hardened metal element is coated in a coating process with an anti-corrosion coating.

    • An apparatus for brushing an elongated workpiece as the workpiece moves through the apparatus is particularly useful in removing scale from a rod. The apparatus includes a plurality of brushes which are engageable with the rod. Motors are provided to rotate the brushes. A detector detects the occurrence of brush wear during brushing of the rod. In order to automatically compensate for brush wear, a brush adjustment assembly changes the positions of the brushes relative to the rod in response to the detector detecting the occurrence of brush wear. When a predetermined maximum permissible amount of brush wear is detected, the brushes are automatically retracted away from the workpiece by the brush adjustment assembly. The brush adjustment assembly moves the brushes relative to the workpiece in directions perpendicular to the axes about which the brushes rotate and perpendicular to a longitudinal central axis of the workpiece. During setting up of the apparatus to brush the workpiece, the brush adjustment assembly is operable to change the positions of the brushes to equalize torque loads which are applied to the motors which rotate the brushes.

    • An apparatus for continuously removing fine scale dust comprising oxides of iron, such as FeO, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, and Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4 from mechanically descaled hot-rolled or heat-treated steel strand as preparation for wire drawing.Generally hot-rolled or heat-treated steel wire strand must be descaled prior to cold drawing into wire products. When mechanically descaled, as by reverse bending, large pieces of brittle scale separate readily from the steel surface but smaller dust-like particles remain attached to the surface as by electromagnetic or electrostatic forces. These small particles must be removed prior to cold drawing into wire; otherwise, drawing die life is seriously reduced by the abrasive nature of the fine scale dust particles.The invention herein comprises an apparatus for the continuous removal of iron oxide scale dust from mechanically descaled steel strand. The invented apparatus is intended for use in tandem with mechanical descaling equipment. Both pieces of equipment operate continuously and in-line with the wire drawing equipment in preparing the steel strand for processing into wire.The invention herein is designed to remove fine scale dust from mechanically descaled strands using compressed air only. The compressed air is made to form equal, opposing high velocity jets that perform the cleaning. The design also causes containment of the removed scale dust and prevents escape to the atmosphere.
