    • A product, in particular a shoe, apparel, a ball or a fishing lure, incorporating an impact sensing element made from polymeric piezoelectric material. In response to impact, the piezoelectric material generates an electrical signal to a battery-powered light- or sound-emitting unit or to an information display device which is at least partially molded into or contained in the product, thus causing circuitry to energize the light- or sound-emitting device from the battery or to display information on the information display device. In some embodiments involving light-emitting devices such as LEDs, the light is conducted to an outside surface of the product directly through the LED or via one or more optical fibers. A shoe can be provided with numerous light-emitting devices, one or more impact sensing elements, a temperature sensor and appropriate circuitry to process the impact and temperature information. This information is then used to light appropriate light-emitting devices such as to display a bar graph of temperature or force of impact, to light or flash individual light-emitting devices or to activate an information display device. In addition, a microprocessor can be included in the circuitry to provide preprogrammed control of the light emitting devices or to evaluate the input from the impact sensing element and then light the appropriate light emitting device or devices or to control the information displayed on the information display de2vice.

    • A high visibility light reflective golf ball is provided. The golf ball has light reflective material on the surface of the resin cover. The reflective material is fashioned as particles from aluminized polyester, aluminum foil, Metalflake.COPYRGT. Paint, or holographic film. In the preferred embodiment the material is incorporated into a clear coat applied to the cover. In alternative embodiments, the material is incorporated in or on the resin cover or in a paint applied to the resin cover and then protected with a clear finish coat. The percentage of surface of the ball covered with the reflective material may vary, preferablly in a range of 5% to 75% of the surface area, depending upon the light reflective properties desired.

    • A game ball is disclosed herein having an inflatable bladder or shell with selected portions thereof reduced in thickness to provide transparent or translucent patterns separated by increased thickness to provide opaque portions. The interior of the ball is occupied by a breakable liquid illumination device held in a removable housing of transparent or translucent material for conveying illumination from the device to the selected portions of the ball thereby transmitting the illumination exteriorly of the ball for visual observation. The apparatus may include ancillary components, such as hoops or nets, which may support an elongated illumination device so that the visual glow from both the ball and component may be correlated during the play of a game.

    • A luminescent or phosphorescent golf ball, which emits a luminescent glow, is provided, for ease of finding the ball in the dark. A method of manufacture is also provided. Three embodiments are disclosed. In one embodiment, the golf ball includes a flexible core which has a primer coat disposed over the core outer surface and, a luminescent or phosphorescent coating is applied thereto followed by encapsulating the flexible core with its luminescent outer coating with a transparent, hard plastic cover. A second embodiment uses any conventional golf ball and applies the primer coat and luminescent coat thereto. The third embodiment provides a luminescent outer plastic cover that encapsulates a flexible core. A phosphorescent glow is emitted from the golf ball after directly applying on the golf ball one of light and heat energy for a sufficient period of time and after removing the source of said energy.
