Although the keypad buttons on the cellular telephone are approximately 260 square millimeters and have large spaces between adjacent keys to reduce instances of pressing the wrong button and to optimize visibility of the character digits on the key, the entire cellular telephone is approximately three inches wide, is lightweight and folds into a compact space, and can be held in one hand by an elderly individual. The mobile terminal includes a memory unit for storing a recipient list and a pre-composed emergency message; an input unit for inputting a command of emergency message transmission; a Bluetooth® module for discovering Bluetooth®-enabled devices within Bluetooth® range and for extracting a Bluetooth® address of the discovered Bluetooth®-enabled device when a Bluetooth®-enabled device is discovered; a controller for inserting the extracted Bluetooth® address into the emergency message; and a communication unit for transmitting the emergency message to a mobile terminal associated with the stored recipient list in response to input of a command of emergency message transmission. As a result, an emergency message is transmitted to a proximate Bluetooth®-enabled device for immediate help to the user.

    • Emergency call system by which a caller can automatically call other parties to leave an emergency message, includes an emergency call unit having a memory for storing telephone numbers to be called and the emergency message, an emergency key, and a microprocessor for controlling storage of the numbers and emergency message in the memory, setting each number to be dialed in sequence, delay dialing of each number for a period of time (without first detecting a dial tone) to assure that an outgoing call can be made on the telephone line, and dialing the numbers in sequence upon activation of the emergency key. The emergency call unit starts a transmission of the emergency message to the dialed number to automatically advise of an emergency after a predetermined time after the number has been dialed and no busy signal has been detected during a predetermined time period.

    • A method of sending urgent messages for a mobile communication device is disclosed in this invention, which comprises at least the flowing steps: setting at least two predetermined keys on the first mobile communication device, pressing the two keys essentially simultaneously for a predetermined duration, acquiring a base station identity code, obtaining location information of the first mobile communication device according to the base station identity code and a preset correspondence table in the first mobile communication device, and sending a message containing said location information to at least one second mobile communication device. When a user of the second mobile communication device receives the predetermined message, the user can deal properly with the situation through the information of the predetermined messages.

    • A panic mode in a device such as a mobile phone having a camera. When the panic mode is triggered an image is captured and immediately transmitted to an external site, such as to a server at a law enforcement authority, a parent's household, etc. Ideally the device does not give an indication as to whether or not the panic mode shot was successful, thereby causing doubt in a wrongdoer who could be the subject of the transferred image. Upon triggering the panic shot the device goes into a lockdown mode whereby interruption of capture and transfer of a record (e.g., image, audio recording, etc.) is not possible or is made very difficult. In one embodiment a back-up permanent power supply is included in the form of a capacitor or small battery so that even if the device's main battery is removed the panic shot can still be transferred.
