When the display devices are disposed in the stacked configuration, the expandable mobile device can be used as a mobile phone or other compact, bar type electronic device. When the display devices are detachably connected along side edges to expose the display portion of the display devices, the expandable mobile device provides a larger display area and can be used as a tablet. Connector prongs disposed on one or more of the detachable display devices facilitate physical attachment and electrical interoperability of the display devices.

The device may have an off screen gesture area that accepts user input outside the display area. The interface inputs received in the off screen gesture are may have special handling and cause different display changes. Further, the device, having two screens, may receive user interface inputs that cross the seam between the two displays. To provide a display that acts like a single display area, the device can predict motions may cross the seam and then interrelate separate inputs on separate screens. The interrelated inputs can cause display changes as if the inputs were received as a single user interaction.

The exemplary smartpad is able to cooperate with the device such that information displayable on the device is also displayable on the smartpad. Furthermore, any one or more of the functions on the device are extendable to the smartpad, with the smartpad capable of acting as an input/output interface or extension of the smartpad. Therefore, for example, information from one or more of the displays on the multi-screen device is displayable on the smartpad.

摘要： A portable terminal includes: a body having a display device provided on the front face thereof; a support plate pivotably installed on the rear face of the body, a receiving recess formed on the rear face of the body adapted to receive the support plate; and wherein the support plate can pivot from the position of being received in the receiving recess, to articulate to a position protruding from the rear face of the body. By being provided with the support plate capable of cradling the body slantingly, the portable terminal makes it needless to carry a separate cover or case for providing a cradle function, which can contribute to maintaining the miniaturized and slimmed appearance of the terminal that is easy to carry.
