    • In a process for memory management in the execution of a program by a portable data carrier which has a first and a second memory region for the storage of objects generated in program execution, an object is initially created at least in part in the second memory region. If, in the course of further program execution, a persistent reference to the object is generated, the object is transferred to the first memory region. In a process for converting a source program into an executable program, a check is carried out at compile time as to whether a persistent reference to an object to be newly created is generated. Depending on the result of that check, program code is generated which creates the object either in the first or at least in part in the second memory region.

    • There is provided a card or token for use in financial transactions. The financial transaction token or card has an onboard energy storage device that enables onboard electronics to operate when the card is not in the proximity of a merchant Point-Of-Service (POS) terminal. In one implementation, the onboard energy storage device includes a capacitor such as a thin-film capacitor that stores sufficient energy to power onboard electronics without the need for an onboard battery.     • Embodiments of the invention relate to for a card that includes a detachable wireless antenna-based payment device, such as a contactless Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) payment device or the like. The card is configured so as to alleviate or eliminate production problems associated with the adhesive-protecting backing being lifted or otherwise removed during handling of the card by the embossing equipment. In specific embodiments, the detachable wireless communication device is formed vertically along the width of the card, such that the detachment line extends along the width of the card. In such embodiments, by limiting the width of the wireless communication payment device to about one-third of the length of the card, the detachable wireless communication payment device is formed outside of the center region of the card, which is the region handled during the embossing procedure.

    • A semiconductor processing device according to the invention includes a first non-volatile memory (21) for erasing stored information on a first data length unit, a second non-volatile memory (22) for erasing stored information on a second data length unit, and a central processing unit (2), and capable of inputting/outputting encrypted data from/to an outside. The first non-volatile memory is used for storing an encryption key to be utilized for encrypting the data. The second non-volatile memory is used for storing a program to be processed by the central processing unit. The non-volatile memories to be utilized for storing the program and for storing the encryption key are separated from each other, and the data lengths of the erase units of information to be stored in the non-volatile memories are defined separately. Therefore, the stored information can efficiently be erased before the execution of a processing of writing the program, and the stored information can be erased corresponding to the data length of a necessary processing unit in the write of the encryption key to be utilized in the calculation processing of the CPU.
