    • A multiple font management system and method in a printing device for activating multiple fonts is provided for enabling base font localization and font patching for print jobs to reduce the need to upload entire fonts in order to provide localized receipts or to provide corrections to partially-corrupted font tables. A font access level stores locations of activated base, localization and patch fonts and are referenced in an access order during character retrieval so as to apply retrieval priority to patches and localizations. A font storage level maintains multiple tier character indices for referencing character shape data in order to provide faster character searching through each of the multiple activated fonts than a single-level index.

    • When a printing condition is assigned before printing out, a printing condition setting interface part displays a printing condition setting screen including a font processing selecting screen. An operator can select how to process fonts from among predetermined items in the font processing selecting screen, when the fonts that are not held in an output device exist in a document. In addition, the operator assigns a desired size and can thereby set so as to replace the fonts having a size no larger than the assigned size with the fonts held in the output device. A converting part converts a document that has been created in an application part into a print job including a control code and image data and the like for the output device, based on a condition that has been set in the printing condition setting screen.

    • A printing system including an interpreter with an interpreter program is provided. The interpreter converts each one of multiple print jobs from a job language format to a printable format for consumption by a printer. At least one of the multiple print jobs includes an identifier indicating that the at least one of the multiple print jobs includes bar code printing related information. The printing system includes a barcode font call processing program and an interpreter support system. Each one of the multiple print jobs is read by the interpreter support system and, when the interpreter support system reads the at least one of the multiple print jobs, the at least one of the multiple print jobs is processed with the barcode font call processing program so that a barcode font call, for delivery by the interpreter support system to the interpreter, is generated by the barcode font call processing program.

    • A processing system to process pattern bitmap data for a printer includes a memory to store pattern bitmap data, a pattern arranging unit to arrange the pattern bitmap data in a size appropriate for a data processing unit in which the pattern bitmap data can be processed at a time, a pattern dividing unit to divide the pattern bitmap data into a first region having a size appropriate for the data processing unit and a second region having a size not appropriate for the data processing unit, and a pattern handler to write/read the pattern bitmap data in/from the memory, wherein the first region is read and written according to the processing unit, and the second region is read and written using one or more units smaller than the data processing unit, such that a processing time of pattern bitmaps is reduced and occurrences of errors (exceptions) in a CPU is prevented.

    • A method for extending the longevity of a printing device is disclosed. According to one aspect, the printing device receives input data. The input data indicates a first resource. Based on resource information that indicates one or more resources provided by the printing device, it is determined whether the printing device provides the first resource. In response to a determination that the printing device does not provide the first resource, it is determined, based on the resource information, which of the one or more resources is the most similar to the first resource. The input data is modified to indicate, instead of the first resource, a second resource that is the most similar of the one or more resources to the first resource. The modified input data then may be sent to the printing device's printing module.
