    • A demodulator for signals angularly related to the position of a rotor of a synchro or resolver uses, in one embodiment, only one transformer in a circuit for subtracting, adding, and phase shifting the signals to produce a single signal phase shifted in proportion to the rotor angle. In another embodiment, a transformerless circuit uses an operational amplifier to derive the phase shifted signal. The phase shifted signal is compared with a reference signal to produce a rectangular wave with a variable duty cycle, which is integrated to produce a DC voltage representing the rotor angle. A pair of the circuits are used in an altitude warning system connected to synchros for the actual altitude and the command altitude of an aircraft. The derived phase shifted signals from both synchros are compared to produce a rectangular wave with a variable duty cycle, which is integrated and compared with voltages representing preselected altitudes to indicate when the aircraft is at those altitudes.

    • An indication of altitude variation about a preselected altitude is provided from a real-time altitude digital code information input signal in response to an altitude alert control signal which is proportional to a first pair of complementary sinusoidal functions of the altitude variation. A second pair of complementary sinusoidal functions of altitude is provided from the altitude digital input signal. The first pair of sinusoidal functions is a function of the second pair of sinusoidal functions and the preselected altitude. A digital-to-synchro conversion for the input signal is provided by means of a pair of read-only memories which have been programmed to each provide a complementary sinusoidal function of the input and a binary scaling means, such as an R-2R ladder network connected to the outputs of each of the respective memories, whereby the second pair of complementary signals is provided. Each memory has an operating state and a protection state, an output being producible only in the operating state. A source of reference potential which has a value sufficient to maintain the memories in the operating state is connected to the scaling means. A single-shot which includes an operational amplifier and a capacitive charging network for changing the input potentials to the operational amplifier to turn it on and off is included as a trigger for an alert indication in response to a particular condition of the altitude alert control signals.

    • An altimeter system including a barometric sensing device, an output device including an encoder and a synchro transmitter effective to provide an electrical output corresponding to the altitude sensed by the sensing device, and a control device including a first device for registering a prescribed altitude and a second device for registering the altitude represented by the electrical output of the output device. Each of the first and second register devices includes a mechanical counter and a positioning mechanism, such as a lead screw, drivingly connected to the counter. The first register device is manually adjustable while the second register device is driven by a synchro receiver dominated by the said synchro transmitter of the output device. The positioning mechanism moves or positions portions of switches which establish desired circuit conditions, one switch providing a circuit condition effective to alert the pilot when the aircraft is not flying within a given range of the prescribed altitude and another switch establishing a circuit condition effective to reset the system after testing.

    • An indication of altitude variation about a preselected altitude is provided from a real time altitude information input signal in response to an altitude alert control signal which is proportional to a pair of complementary sinusoidal functions, sine and cosine, of the altitude variation. The uncorrected altitude information and the preselected altitude information are both fed to fine and coarse transolvers which each provide the sine and cosine functions of the angular equivalent of the altitude variation. The relative magnitudes of these sinusoidal functions are compared to provide the alert control signal. The fine cosine signal is phase demodulated with the coarse cosine signal as a reference and the relative magnitude thereof compared with the relative magnitude of the fine sine signal in order to provide both an inner and an outer alert control signal for a logic network. The relative magnitudes of the coarse sine and cosine signals are also compared to provide an arming signal for the logic network. The logic network is responsive to the alert control signals to control both an aural and a visual alarm.
