The pyrolysis step includes heating the coal substantially in the absence of oxygen to remove volatile material from the coal. The volatile material evolved from the coal in the pyrolysis step is treated to separate the volatile material into gases and liquids, wherein the liquids contain condensed volatile material. A portion of the liquids is directed to the coal char, and the returned portion of the liquids is mixed with the coal char, thereby returning some of the volatile material to the coal char.

摘要： Embodiments described herein relate to systems and methods of CO2 uptake. In one aspect, a method includes applying heat to a calciner to decompose a carbon-containing stream to a gas stream and a stream of a carbonation medium, the gas stream including CO2. The method further includes sequestering and/or utilizing the gas stream, feeding the stream of the carbonation medium to a carbonation station, contacting the carbonation medium with ambient air at the carbonation station, such that the carbonation medium adsorbs CO2 to form the carbon-containing stream, during the contacting, adding a water stream to the carbonation medium at intervals of about 30 minutes to about 72 hours, and feeding the carbon-containing stream to the calciner. In some embodiments, adding the water stream is via misting and/or spraying.

摘要： A system for producing biocoal and biochar includes at least one rotary compression unit (RCU) having a barrel, a compression screw housed within the barrel, a feed for receiving biomass and at least one exit for releasing biochar and gasses formed in the RCU. A first exit stream is produced that includes biochar and a portion of the remaining gasses, and a second exit stream is produced that includes biocoal. A gas crossover is provided that connects the first and second exit stream having a mechanism for transporting gasses from the first exit stream to the second exit stream thereby condensing a portion of the remaining gasses into the biocoal. In one form two RCUs are included connected to two condensers.

摘要： Apparatuses, systems, and methods are disclosed for shale pyrolysis. A retort for shale pyrolysis may include a pyrolysis zone, a combustion zone, and a cool down zone. The pyrolysis zone may include one or more pyrolysis zone heat exchangers that transfer heat from a working fluid to shale for heating and pyrolyzing the shale. The combustion zone may include one or more injectors that inject oxygen to combust coke residue in the pyrolyzed shale. The cool down zone may include one or more cool down zone heat exchangers that cool the shale by transferring heat to the working fluid. In a further embodiment, the working fluid is circulated to heat the pyrolysis zone heat exchangers.
