    • A caulking gun has a tubular chamber to surround sleeve-like rigid tubes and compressible sausage type containers containing viscous materials including sealants, adhesives, caulking, mastics and the like. When rigid tubes are loaded into the chamber, compressed gas is allowed to surround the sleeve and a plunger loaded within the rigid tube to equalize pressure around the outside of the rigid tube. If a sausage type container is loaded into the chamber, a removable plunger is also provided to form a tight seal between the perimeter of the plunger and the inner surface of the chamber. Compressed gas introduced into the chamber preferentially acts on the plunger and an underlying end wall of the sausage to expel the material, without imparting any significant pressure to other parts of the sausage. The caulking gun includes a variable flow rate nozzle which may be removed from the device. The nozzle may be replaced with similar or different nozzle pieces of various shapes and sizes, if desired. Hand operated controls vary the flow rate through the nozzle and control introduction of compressed gas when in use. These features may be incorporated into other portable, hand held dispensing devices powered by other pressurized fluids.

    • A cartridge assembly used with a conventional caulking gun for mixing and dispensing components of a material. The cartridge assembly includes a component carrying body that has a plurality of separate component reservoirs and a component flow directing housing at a forward end of the reservoirs. A mixing unit extends between the component flow directing housing and a discharge nozzle secured to the front end of the carrying body. The mixing unit mixes the components and delivers them to the discharge nozzle. The mixing unit includes a plurality of mixing cylinders that each have a longitudinal axis that extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the component carrying body. The mixing cylinders and guiding channels that extend between them form at least a portion of a component mixing path. The mixing cylinders can each include one or more mixing elements.

    • A foam-dispensing device includes a main tubular housing which houses a material cartridge. Several chambers are formed within the material cartridge with each chamber containing a separate material. A motionless mixer is attached to the dispensing end of the cartridge. The motionless mixer includes a tapered rear end into which the materials flow exposing the materials to one another, and a front end containing a helical mixing element. A hole is formed transversely in the motionless mixer between the rear end of the mixer and the helical mixing element for receiving a supply of pressurized gas therethrough. The materials flow out of the cartridge and into the rear end of the motionless mixer. After the materials have been exposed to one another, the materials pass by the hole and are injected with the supply of pressurized gas. The pressurized gas is injected into all of the materials after the materials have contacted one another but before the materials are mixed together by the helical mixing element. The aerated materials flow through the helical mixing element and are mixed into a foam compound before being dispensed from the foam-dispensing device.

    • A dispenser for dispensing two components is disclosed which comprises a drum 10 in which a tube 20 is supported. A first piston 12 is arranged within the drum 10 and has an opening 22 through which the tube 20 extends. The opening is provided with a plug 80 which has an aperture also through which the tube 20 extends. The plug supports a blade 32 which bears on a second piston 40 arranged within the tube 22. The plug 80 is fixed relative to the piston 12 so that it and the blade 32 move with the piston 12. During movement of the piston 12 the blade 32 slices the tube 20 and bears against the second piston 40 so that the first piston 12 and the second piston 40 move in a fixed manner as a single unit. During movement of the pistons 12 and 40 the two components are dispensed from the drum 10 and the tube 22 in a particular ratio depended upon the volume displaced by movement of the pistons 12 and 40. The dispensed components can therefore be mixed together in the predetermined ratios.
