    • An implantable medical device system includes an implantable device and an external locator device for percutaneously locating detecting port opening of the implantable device. The implantable device includes a port chamber forming the port opening, a septum sealing the port chamber relative to an exterior of the device, and a coil positioned at a known location relative to the port opening. The locator device includes a controller, at least one X-loop electrically coupled to the controller and oriented along a first major axis, and at least one Y-loop electrically coupled to the controller and oriented along a second major axis differing from the first major axis. The system is configured such that when the locator is spatially proximate the coil, an induced voltage in at least the Y-loop(s) is read by the controller to indicate a location of the coil relative to the locator device.

It comprises a flexible sheet having at least top and bottom edges and first and second lateral edges. The exterior face has a hole and at least one legend. The at least one legend comprises a calendar reference and first and second marking holes. The exterior face further comprises at least one offset hole at a predetermined distance from the hole. The calendar reference defines dates or days of a week. The calendar reference is positioned in between the first and second marking holes. The first and second marking holes serve as identifying means for identifying a specific location for insertion of a hypodermic injection device to inject insulin at specific areas of an abdomen in between the first and second marking holes.

A virtually synthesized image of the blood vessel 9 and the needle 10 is displayed on the monitor 3. Then, a target 88 at which the needle 10 is to be inserted, a direction, a distance 12-A, an angle 12-B of the needle with respect to the blood vessel, and the like are displayed in the synthesized image, so that the positional relationship between the blood vessel and the needle 10 is recognized in a three-dimensional manner.

    • The invention is directed to an implantable pump. The implantable pump has a port with light emitters indicating the location of the port. The port can be useful in providing bolus injections or the refilling of reservoirs. The light emitters can be arranged in various forms about the port including linear, triangular, square, or circular, among others. If more than one port is located on a device, these ports can be differentiated by differing colors and arrangements of emitters. In addition, various circuitries can be used to activate the emitters. These circuitries can include a coil and capacitor arrangement that provide a separate power source from that of the pump.

    • An implantable infusion apparatus has a medication reservoir for storing a medication and a carrier reservoir for storing a carrier. The entire apparatus, including both reservoirs, is typically located in a housing made of stainless steel, titanium, or any other strong corrosion resistant biocompatible material. The medication and carrier reservoirs are accessed through a medication access port and a carrier access port, respectively. The access ports are covered with a medication compound septum and a carrier compound septum, respectively. The carrier reservoir is larger, and thus holds a larger volume, than the medication reservoir. To reduce the size of the implantable infusion apparatus, the medication is highly concentrated to many times the dosage required. The concentrated medication is then diluted with the carrier, to the proper dose, before it is discharged to the patient.
