摘要： A method and an apparatus for controlling a ventilator to automatically adjust ventilation assistance to an active or passive subject. The method includes determining volume and flow rate of gas to the patient during inspiration on an ongoing basis, and generating control signals in proportion to the volume and flow rate of gas to the patient wherein proportionality factors, and support levels for the elastic and resistive components of pressure are automatically adjusted by the ventilator. The ongoing pressure applied by the ventilator is a sum of elastic and resistive pressures that are automatically controlled by the system. When the patient breathes spontaneously, the support levels are automatically adjusted based on the patient's requirements. If the patient does not breathe spontaneously, the ventilator provides ventilation at an optimal level and rate. The method may be used in weaning or in a management phase of ventilation.

One or more classifiers are provided based on the one or more extracted features, and each classifier is used to select a physiological state from one or more candidate physiological states for each of the one or more respiratory cycles. For each of the selected physiological states, a likelihood value is determined, and a physiological state of the patient is determined based on the likelihood values.

摘要： A system selectively delivers either breath-synchronized, flow-targeted ventilation (BSFTV) or closed-system positive pressure ventilation (CSPPV) to augment respiration of a patient with a standard tracheal tube. A removable adaptor has a cap that can be removably attached to the proximal connector of the tracheal tube in BSFTV mode, and an inner cannula that extends within the tracheal tube to effectively divide it into two lumens. The adaptor includes a ventilator connector for removably engaging a ventilator hose to deliver air/oxygen through the adaptor and one lumen of the tracheal tube with a flow rate varying over each respiratory cycle in a predetermined waveform synchronized with the patient's respiratory cycle to augment the patient's spontaneous respiration. The adaptor also includes a port allowing the spontaneously-breathing patient to freely inhale and exhale in open exchange with the atmosphere through the other lumen.

摘要： A device for measuring the consumption of oxygen and the consumption of carbon dioxide by a subject comprises an air collecting member for collecting the flow of air breathed, a flowmeter for measuring the flow rate of air exhaled by the subject, and a sampling line for sampling a portion of the flow of air exhaled by the subject. A pump, with substantially constant capacity draws the aforesaid portion of flow of air into the sampling line. A mixing chamber is interposed in the sampling line for collecting and mixing together flows of air exhaled by the subject in a number of breathing cycles. Means for sensing the concentration of oxygen and means for sensing the concentration of carbon dioxide are arranged in the sampling line. The pump is with constant capacity, but is controlled in a PWM mode in order to simulate a capacity that varies in proportion to the variation of the flow during the breathing cycle so as to render measurement of the consumption of oxygen reliable even though the mixing chamber does not receive the entire flow exhaled by the subject. The device further comprises a bypass line of the mixing chamber, through which the flow of air can pass without passing through the mixing chamber. A valve for selecting the measuring mode can be displaced selectively into two different positions, to get the flow of air that traverses the sampling line to converge either through the mixing chamber, when an average measurement is to be made of the consumption of oxygen by the subject in the course of a number of breathing cycles, or through said bypass line, when an instantaneous measurement is to be made of the consumption of oxygen by the subject in each breathing cycle.

The patient interface also includes a communications link configured to provide the signal to a physiological monitor.
