    • A metal gasket is formed of first, second and third metal plates laminated together. The first metal plate has a first hole, and the second metal plate is situated above the first metal plate and has a second hole. The second hole is greater than the first hole and has a second edge located above the first metal plate. A first bead is formed in at least one of the first and second metal plates to surround the first and second holes. The third metal plate includes a base portion situated above the second metal plate, a curved portion extending from the base portion and situated inside the first and second holes, and a flange extending from the curved portion and situated under the first metal plate. The flange has a third edge located between the first and second edges, so that high surface pressure areas are formed above the flange and the first bead with a low surface pressure area therebetween, by which the gasket can be securely sealed.

    • A metal laminate gasket for an internal combustion engine is formed of first, second and third metal plates. The first metal plate includes a base portion, a curved portion extending from the base portion to define a hole for a cylinder bore, and a flange extending from the curved portion and disposed under the base portion. The flange has a plurality of wide flange portions and narrow flange portions alternately arranged to each other such that the wide flange portions are located near bolt holes arranged around the cylinder bore to support high tightening pressures applied thereto. The second plate is situated under the base portion, and has a first bead formed around the cylinder bore and disposed between the base portion and the flange. The third plate is situated between the base portion and the second metal plate, and is located outside the flange. The tightening pressures by bolts are supported by the wide and narrow flange portions to securely seal around the cylinder bore.

    • A metal cylinder head gasket of the invention is basically formed of a metal plate extending substantially throughout an entire area of an engine to be sealed, and a plurality of cylinder bores and bolt holes. The cylinder bores are arranged in a longitudinal direction of the metal plate, and the bolt holes are situated around the respective cylinder bores. At least one shim is located at at least one of four corner areas of the metal plate without extending outwardly from the corner area where the shim is located. The shim supports a tightening pressure of bolts to thereby prevent deformation of the cylinder head. Sealing means for the cylinder bores and other holes can be equally compressed to help sealing of the cylinder bores and other holes.

    • A metal laminate gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine. The gasket is formed of first and second metal plates laminated with each other, and a metal ring. The first plate includes a base portion, a curved portion extending from the base portion to define a first opening, a flange extending from the curved portion and located under the base portion, and second openings corresponding to bolt holes of the engine. The second metal plate is situated under the base portion, and includes a third opening greater than the first opening and fourth openings situated under the second openings. The metal ring is situated between the flange and the base portion, and includes narrow portions and wide portions alternately arranged to each other. The wide portions are located close to the bolt holes. Thus, high tightening pressures when bolts disposed in the bolt holes are tightened are supported at the wide portions.

    • A metal laminate gasket of the invention is formed of first and second metal plates and an annular plate. The first metal plate has a base portion, a curved portion extending from the base portion to define a first opening corresponding to a hole of the engine to be sealed, and a flange extending from the curved portion and situated over the base portion. The annular plate is situated between the flange and the base portion and has the width at least partly shorter than that of the flange. The second metal plate is situated over the first metal plate at a side where the flange is located. The second metal plate has a second opening at least partly smaller than an outer diameter of the flange, and an edge portion around the second opening. The edge portion of the second plate is at least partly retained between the flange and the base portion. Thus, the first and second metal plates are assembled together with the annular plate.
