摘要： A method of making a multilayer substrate, which can include a silicon layer having an optically finished surface and a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) grown diamond layer on the optically finished surface of the silicon layer. At the interface of the silicon layer and the diamond layer, the optically finished surface of the silicon layer can have a surface roughness (Ra)≤100 nm. A surface of the grown diamond layer opposite the silicon layer can be polished to an optical finish and a light management coating can be applied to the polished surface of the grown diamond layer opposite the silicon layer. 摘要： The present invention discloses an optical fiber filter with an ultra-wide tuning range, comprising an input optical fiber, a two-dimensional mechanical rotating mirror, a collimating and beam expanding system, two gratings, and an output optical fiber. The input optical fiber emits a multi-wavelength optical signal into the two-dimensional mechanical rotating mirror, the optical signal is reflected to the collimating and beam expanding system to form collimated beams, the collimated beams are incident on the gratings which generate dispersion to scatter different wavelengths to different angles, and lights of different diffraction angles are input into the output optical fiber by adjusting the two-dimensional mechanical rotating mirror. In the present invention, a two-dimensional mechanical rotating mirror is used to switch gratings of different wavebands, which can realize tuning of optical wavelengths in an ultra-wide range. The application scenarios are greatly expanded, the cost is reduced, and the optical path is simple, which can realize fast tuning. In addition, the number of channels is expanded by multiplexing the time and space of a rotating device.

摘要： The present disclosure provides a MEMS-based variable optical attenuator (VOA) array, sequentially including an optical fiber array, a micro-lens array, and a MEMS-based micro-reflector array to form a VOA array having several optical attenuation units. The MEMS-based micro-reflectors can change the propagation direction of a beam, causing a misalignment coupling loss to the beam and thereby achieving optical attenuation, with a broad range of dynamic attenuation, low polarization dependent loss and wavelength dependent loss, good repeatability, short response time (at the millisecond level), etc. Arrayed device elements are used as assembly units of the present disclosure, and the assembly of arrayed elements facilitates tuning in batches. Accordingly, automation levels are improved, and the production costs are reduced.

摘要： An optical circuit for routing a signal includes a coupler and first and second waveguides. The coupler has an input for the signal and has first and second outputs. Laser beam micro scanner modules (MSMs) are arranged into 2D arrays or matrices. During operation of the MSMs, a fiber tip that projects the laser beam is displaced along the x and y-axis in order to scan the focal spot. Each MSM within a matrix can process a corresponding cell (e.g., one square centimeter) during focal spot scanning, and the plurality of MSMs may be operated in parallel to process a plurality of corresponding cells (e.g., with a 10×10 matrix of MSM, 100 cm2) without rastering or otherwise repositioning the assembly over the build surface.

摘要： A wideband electro-absorption modulating (EAM) device is configured to include a ground shield that functions to minimize the spread of an applied AC voltage beyond the limits of the modulator's electrode. The ground shield includes a grounding electrode disposed in a spaced-apart relationship with the modulator electrode along the ridge of the EAM structure, and a grounding termination used to couple the grounding electrode to a suitable ground location. The ground location may be either on-chip (such as the DC ground of the modulator itself) or off-chip (via an off-chip capacitor, with a wirebond connecting the grounding electrode to the capacitor). The use of a ground shield mitigates the effects that changes in the data rate have on effective length of the modulator as seen by the applied data signal.

摘要： An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) module obtains Optical Return Loss (ORL) of a fiber plant. Calibration information is obtained of at least internal OTDR reflections associated with the OTDR module. The OTDR module is connected to the fiber plant. An ORL response is measured due to reflections of an ORL signal transmitted from the OTDR module along the fiber plant, and a peak OTDR response is measured in response to reflections of an OTDR signal transmitted from the OTDR module along the fiber plant. A corrected ORL response of the fiber plant is determined by: using the measured peak OTDR response (e.g., peak value or area under the peak) and the calibration information to calculate the calculated ORL due to internal reflections, and then adjusting the measured ORL response by the calculated ORL to represent the corrected ORL of the fiber plant.
