    • A recording unit frame, in which a recording unit is to be mounted, includes a frame and a cover body. The frame surrounds a scanning area of a carriage in which recording onto a recording sheet is performed by a print head, and accommodates a guide mechanism and a carriage moving mechanism. The frame has at least an opening on its top. The cover body is fixedly attached to the frame so as to block a part of the opening of the frame. The cover body has a window that enables a user to have access to a recording sheet in the frame. With these structures, the recording unit can be shrunk in height without losing its rigidity and strength, thereby providing a printer capable of maintaining high print quality.

    • An automatic cut-sheet feeder is provided having an extendible guide for preventing the upper section of a sheet from hanging down, even if the extendible guide does not reach the upper edge of the sheet because of downsizing this feeder. The automatic cut-sheet feeder for a printer includes a sheet stacking section for stacking at least one printing sheet and an extendible guide for supporting a sheet from its back surface, which is disposed at the upstream side, in the sheet feeding direction of the section. The extendible guide has a low section located centrally in the sheet width direction. The low section is lower than both side sections, which are outwardly protruding and supports the sheet such the sheet is curved in the width direction of the sheet.

    • An upper body opening/closing mechanism for a piece of electronic equipment that has a lower body constituting a lower portion of the piece of electronic equipment, an upper body for normally covering the upper surface of the lower body, the upper body being rotatable about one end thereof in order to expose the upper surface of the lower body, a holding member for holding the upper body at a position where the upper surface of the lower body is covered by the upper body, and an elastic member normally contacting the upper body for biasing the upper body in a direction for exposing the upper surface of the lower body by exerting an elastic force when the retained condition of the upper body maintained by the holding member is released. The elastic constant of the elastic member is set so as to balance the closing force, due to a weight of the upper body, exerted in a closing direction when the upper body is rotated up to a first predetermined angle where the weight is exerted at a center of gravity of the upper body, and the upper body opening/closing mechanism is provided with a reverse biasing member for accumulating an elastic energy thereof in a direction opposite to the opening direction of the upper body when the rotation angle of the upper body exceeds the first predetermined angle and reaches a second predetermined angle where the weight of the upper body is exerted at the center of gravity thereof in the opening direction.

    • A data processing apparatus provides excellent printing quality even though it employs an impact printer which is subject to mechanical vibrations during the typing operation. The apparatus comprises a highly rigid chassis frame for respectively supporting the printer and CRT in upper and lower portions of the frame and to withstand outside factors which adversely affect the printing quality. At the same time, inclination of the CRT is adjusted to provide the minimum size of the combined equipment and easy printing check within an area of an operator's eye sight. A shielding plate is also provided on the upper chassis to mount the printer and to prevent leaked magnetic flux from adversely affecting the CRT and printing quality.

    • A printer has a carriage being movable between a first end and a second end of a reciprocating path; and a driving force transmitting path selecting mechanism provided at the second end of the reciprocating path. The selecting mechanism has: a common driving force outputting member; a plurality of force receiving members; a selecting member; and a position retainer for keeping the position of the selecting member. The selecting member connects the force outputting member to one of the plurality of force receiving members, and moves in association with the carriage when the carriage moves in a vicinity of the second end in a first direction extending from the first end to the second end. The position retainer keeps the position of the selecting member when the carriage moves in a second direction extending from the second end to the first end. The force receiving member connected to the force outputting member via the selecting member is selected in accordance with a movement of the carriage along the reciprocating path.
