    • A control system for the fuel injection mechanism of an internal combustion engine, especially a Diesel engine. In order to adapt the fuel admitted to the engine to exact requirements, a correction is made on the basis of air mass flow rate and fuel temperature. The air mass flow rate is deduced from signals generated by an air temperature sensor and an air pressure sensor while the fuel temperature is taken by a fuel temperature sensor. The two temperature signals are applied to a bridge circuit which feeds a differential amplifier whose output is mixed with the pressure signal. The composite mixed signal is applied to a servo-mechanism to limit the excursion of the fuel control rack of the fuel injection pump. Status indicators generate feedback signals for comparison with set-point signals to provide closed-loop control.

    • A compartment in a housing has a wall serving as a pressure diaphragm in communication with the contained fluid to be measured. A measuring element with a spherical cap is arranged in the compartment for the uniform transmission of pressure to electrically responsive pressure sensitive means on the measuring element. The measuring element contacts the pressure diaphragm at virtually only a single point. The diameter of the measuring element and, accordingly, of the compartment which includes the measuring element, can be considerably reduced, so that the mechanical strength of the pressure sensor is increased.

    • To permit ready matching of a Diesel engine operating circuit to a glow plug system, an interface-and-control unit (1) is provided which includes a microprocessor (MP) which decodes data words received from an engine control unit (MS). The data words are in the form of serially transmitted bits which define, by time duration of the bits. respectively logic "0" and logic "1" values to provide, inherently, simultaneously data information and synchronizing information. For example, the logic "0" bits may be 1/8 of a predetermined clock period (T) whereas the logic "1" bits may be 1/2 of the clock period (T). The microprocessor, thus, can be easily matched to engines of different types and can carry out, on its own, diagnostic routines and indicator functions under command of respective bits being transmitted thereto. Preferably, glow plug current is provided in pulsed form, the duty cycle of which is controlled by four data bits (D0-D4) transmitted to the microprocessor (MP).

    • An rpm-to-voltage converter for use in vehicles, in which the converter evaluates the time period between two sequential rpm pulses. This is accomplished by means of a capacitor loading and unloading in an approximately hyperbolic course, so that the inversely proportional relationship between the frequency and the period duration is evaluated for the frequency-to-voltage conversion. The primary characteristics of the converter are a capacitor which can be periodically loaded and unloaded, the exponential voltage course of which during the loading phase is followed by means of an emitter follower, and at the end of the loading procedure the voltage value proportional to the rpm is stored in a memory device.
