摘要： Flame retardant formulations comprised of at least one bromine-containing polyol are produced by a process which comprises: A) heating a mixture formed from components comprised of (i) tetrabromophthalic anhydride, (ii) at least one aliphatic polyol, and (iii) at least one liquid straight chain aliphatic diester of a straight-chain alkane dicarboxylic acid to form an intermediate composition; and B) contacting all or a portion of the intermediate composition one or more times with (iv) at least one alkylene oxide that results in the formation of a liquid product formulation, and optionally, removing any excess alkylene oxide present; the amounts of (i), (ii), (iii), and (iv) used being proportioned to form a formulation having a bromine content of at least about 40 wt %, a viscosity at 25° C. of about 20,000 cps or less, and an acid number as determinable by aqueous sodium hydroxide titration and expressed in terms of potassium hydroxide, of less than about 1 milligram of KOH per gram of the formulation.

The liquid mixture is derived from bromine, a Lewis acid catalyst, and a diphenyl oxide species selected from the group consisting of (i) diphenyl oxide, (ii) partially brominated diphenyl oxide, (iii) decabromodiphenyl oxide having about 0.5% or more nonabromodiphenyl oxide, and (iv) any combination of (i)-(iii). The process comprises distilling bromine and hydrogen bromide from the liquid mixture while feeding bromine to the liquid mixture.

摘要： N,N′-piperazinebis(neopentylglycol)phosphoramidate is used in combination with at least one co-additive which is (i) melamine, (ii) one or more melamine compounds or derivatives, or (iii) both of (i) and (ii) to provide effective flame retardancy in thermoplastic polymers. With polymers that tend to release trace amounts of acid under thermal processing conditions, a hydrotalcite is preferably included in the composition. In acid-sensitive polymers such as polyesters, the N,N′-piperazinebis(neopentylglycol)phosphoramidate should be free or essentially free of acid species as determinable by use of nmr, mass spec, and/or HPLC.

摘要： In a process for treating the surface of metal objects the surface is heated in the presence of (i) an amine compound having at least one functionally substituted group and (ii) at least one 1,2-dihydroxy benzene derivative providing and electrically conductive and oxidation resistant metal surface. The metal objects include metal particles constituting a metal powder which after treatment is storable and directly usable in electronics applications.
