    • The embodiment disclosed herein relates to systems and methods to provide improvements to power delivery systems employed with lamps in general and fluorescent lamps in particular. In accordance with one exemplary embodiment, cathode current is controlled to a maximum level to quickly bring the cathode temperature up to thermionic emission temperature. After lamp ignition, a cathode voltage reduction circuit is employed to reduce voltage of the external cathode heating. Power is supplied to a power factor correction circuit via an IC, in accordance with a second exemplary embodiment. Finally, a third disclosed embodiment addresses desensitizing the lamp from various deleterious parasitic capacitive effects associated with the power delivery to one or more lamps.

    • An electronic ballast is configured to receive the input from a power source in order to control operation of a lamp connected to the electronic ballast. The ballast includes a positive side bus voltage line and a ground reference line. An input section is connected to the power source, to the positive side bus voltage line and the ground reference line. A complementary pair of switches, connected to bus and to the resonant network, is controlled by a gate drive network. The gate drive network receives feedback signals that is coupled to transformer and controls operation of the set of switches using the received and further processed signals. A triac dimmer is connected between the power source and the input section for providing a dimming capability. A resonant network includes at least a first resonant capacitor connected to the resonant network and to at least one of the positive side bus voltage line and the ground reference line. A second resonant capacitor is connected to the first resonant capacitor and to the input section. At least a portion of resonant current from the second resonant capacitor is applied back to the input section. The portion of resonant current applied back to the input section is sufficient to maintain a minimum triac holding current. In another embodiment of the present invention, a lamp is connected within the ballast circuit such that a portion of its current is also fed to the input circuit.

    • Ballast circuit 10 for lamp 52 has a switching network consisting of a complimentary pair of switches 30, 32 which are driven by a low-power universally available controller IC 26. The controller IC 26 is configured with a floating ground arrangement 36. A current sensor 72 assists in generating a negative feedback signal 79 which is provided to an inverting input of operational amplifier 86 of controller IC 26. Prior to being supplied, the negative feedback signal 79 is summed at summing node 80 with a level shifted signal 92, generated by a level shifting circuit 22 which received an input dimming signal 16. The level shifting circuit 22 shifts the dimming signal 16 from a ground reference system to a floating ground design. The level shifted signal 92 and feedback signal 79 are designed to cancel each other whereby the input to operational amplifier 86 is maintained constant as the non-inverting input has a constant internally supplied voltage.

    • A driver circuit for powering a load is disclosed. The driver circuit includes an input for receiving for connection to a source of AC power, and a rectifier for converting the AC power from the input into DC power. The driver circuit also include a voltage bus filter, a high-frequency oscillator for generating a high-frequency AC signal, a resonant driver, a feedback circuit, and a high-frequency DC rectifier. The voltage bus filter smoothens the DC power from the rectifier, and includes at least one capacitor. The resonant driver is in electrical communication with the high-frequency oscillator, and limits a current of the high-frequency AC signal and produces a limited output voltage based on the high-frequency AC signal. The feedback circuit is in electrical communication with the resonant driver and the voltage bus filter, and maintains a charge on the capacitor of the voltage bus filter.
