    • A lens shading correction method and apparatus are provided for removing vignetting occurring in digital images due to lens shading. A white image captured by an image pickup device and an image pickup unit is separated into reference white images corresponding to color channels. A vignetting center having a maximum light intensity is estimated in each of the reference white images. Multiple reference segments on each of the reference white images are defined. A lens shading correction value corresponding to each pixel constituting the reference segments are calculated using a corresponding light intensity. A lens shading correction function corresponding to each reference segment is derived using a corresponding lens shading correction value. Vignetting of a general image received in a general image processing mode is removed, using the derived multiple lens shading correction functions.

    • A method for photographing a panoramic picture, and for identifying motion of a photographing apparatus to automatically photograph respective images of a panoramic picture. The method steps include: (a) obtaining a first image in response to a request for a panoramic picture photography; (b) identifying motion of a photographing apparatus having obtained the first image, by applying a motion estimation technique to currently input images; (c) automatically determining a photographing direction based on the identified motion of the photographing apparatus; (d) selectively applying a motion estimation technique for estimating motion in a horizontal direction or a vertical direction, according to the determined photographing direction, and identifying motion of the photographing apparatus; (e) judging photographing time points of respective images by identifying that the identified motion of the photographing apparatus has reached a preset threshold value for decision of the photographing time point; and (f) photographing images at the photographing time point of the respective images.

A mean value of the extracted image is calculated A noise variance, a first threshold for determining whether a pixel is defective, and a second threshold for calculating a weight value for a pixel are all estimated from the mean value. There is a determination as to whether each pixel is defective, and a weight value, a weighted signal mean and a weighted signal variance of the each pixel are all calculated, and noise eliminated from the image using the noise variance, the weighted signal mean, and the weighted signal variance.

    • Disclosed is an apparatus and method for color interpolation in a digital photographing device, the apparatus comprising an optical unit including a lens and a lens adjuster so as to receive an optical signal, an image sensor installed to be movable in a predetermined direction, wherein the image sensor converts the optical signal input through the optical unit into a digital signal, in order to obtain raw data based on a unit of a frame, the raw data including color information about one color of each pixel according to a color filter array (CFA) of a predetermined format, a buffer for storing the raw data obtained by the image sensor, a sensor movement controller for controlling a movement state and a movement distance of the image sensor so as to obtain at least two frames of raw data, one of which has an offset from one image through the image sensor, when said one image is photographed, a sensor movement driving unit for moving the image sensor under a control of the sensor movement controller and an image processing unit for converting said at least two frames of raw data stored in the buffer into image data, which have a plurality of pieces of color information predetermined to enable expression of an original color for each pixel, by using color interpolation.
