    • An image-displaying device and a pixel control method therefore are provided. The image-displaying device includes a luminance information extraction unit which is configured to extract luminance information from an image; an image enhancement decision unit which is configured to decide an image enhancement mode based on the extracted luminance information; a pixel control unit which is configured to control a pixel of the image by the decided image enhancement mode; and an image output unit which is configured to output the pixel-controlled image. The method includes extracting luminance information from an image; deciding an image enhancement mode based on the luminance information; controlling each of a plurality of pixels of the image according to the image enhancement mode; and outputting the pixel-controlled image.

    • An image display apparatus and method are provided. The image display apparatus includes an external light detection module which detects an intensity of external illumination; a storage module which stores a plurality of light emitting unit control values; and a control module which selectively performs, according to a result of a determination, a lightness compensation operation for compensating a lightness of a light emitting unit and a visibility adjustment operation for adjusting the visibility of the original input image. The method includes detecting an intensity of external illumination; determining whether a visibility of an original input image can be ensured according to an input light emitting control value and the detected external illumination intensity; and selectively performing, according to the determination, a lightness compensation operation for compensating a lightness of a light emitting unit and a visibility adjustment operation for adjusting the visibility of the original input image.

    • Provided are an image brightness controlling apparatus and method, and an adaptive brightness controlling apparatus and method based on the brightness degree and/or brightness range of an image. The image brightness controlling apparatus includes a brightness increment arithmetic unit for outputting a brightness increment for a pixel, and an individual component brightness increment arithmetic unit for outputting the brightness increments of individual components constituting the pixel in response to the brightness increment for a pixel. The individual component brightness increment arithmetic unit multiplies the brightness increment of the pixel by each of the unit vectors of the components constituting the pixel to obtain the brightness increments of the individual components. The image brightness controlling apparatus further includes an adder for adding the components constituting the pixel to the brightness increments of the components. The image brightness controlling apparatus and the adaptive image brightness controlling apparatus can maintain the sense of color of an image (e.g., the hue or chroma of an image) while increasing the brightness degree and brightness range of an image.

    • A method and apparatus for tracking a color-based object in video sequences are provided. According to the method, an initial object area in one frame of video sequences desired to be tracked is assigned, and an initial object effective window containing the initial object area is assigned. A frame following the frame containing the assigned initial object area is received as a newly input image, and an object search window containing the initial object area for tracking and the initial object effective window in the newly input image is assigned. Then, the model histogram of the initial object area corresponding to a predetermined bin resolution value and the input histogram of the image in the object search window are calculated. From the calculated object probability image, using a predetermined method, a new object area to which the initial object area moved is obtained in the next frame in which the initial object area of the frame desired to be tracked is given as a previous (tracked) object area. By doing so, the object in video sequences is tracked. Accordingly, using the continuously extracted video object region information, an object-based interactive-type additional information service function in movies, TV programs, and CFs can be implemented effectively.
