    • A brake device for vehicles comprises a master cylinder, a wheel brake adapted to be operated by the output hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder to apply a braking force to a wheel, and an antilock control unit, having therein an inertia type wheel angular deceleration sensor driven by the wheel through a transmission device and adapted for controlling the output hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder in accordance with the output of the sensor, the antilock control unit being carried on the support system for the wheel. Defined on one side of the wheel is a recess which is concave toward the other side of the wheel from the central rotational plane of the rim of the wheel, and the antilock control unit and transmission device are disposed in the recess.

    • A braking system for a motorcycle employing a multipiston fluid cylinder arranged in series to provide stepped braking from a single input to both the front and rear wheels. Additionally, a proportional pressure reduction valve operates to reduce the proportional braking pressure to the rear wheel of the motorcycle above a threshold or break point pressure level. An anti-locking system is employed with the front braking system. This anti-locking mechanism includes a warning buzzer and light simultaneously activated and deactivated with the anti-locking mechanism. A control mechanism including a control rod having stepped surfaces is employed to increase the threshold pressure of the proportional pressure reduction valve. The control mechanism disables the warning buzzer and the anti-locking mechanism and generates a continuous warning light signal.

    • A motorcycle has a front wheel brake with a manual actuator, and has a rear wheel brake with a pedal-type actuator. First and second pistons are slidably mounted within the same bore in a body and define within the bore a first oil chamber between the first piston and the end of the bore, and a second oil chamber between the pistons. The first oil chamber is connected to operate the front wheel brake, and the second oil chamber is connected to operate the rear wheel brake. The manual actuator is hydraulically connected to move the second brake piston toward the first piston, and the pedal-type actuator is mechanically connected to move the second piston in the same direction, so that either or both of the brake actuators may operate both of the brakes.

The front master cylinder has a first brake chamber for producing a brake torque for a front road wheel and a first control chamber for controlling the brake torque so as to prevent locking of the front wheel. The rear master cylinder has a second brake chamber for producing a brake torque for a rear road wheel and a second control chamber for controlling the brake torque so as to prevent locking of the rear wheel. The control chambers are each in communication with a single common source of oil pressure through a first control valve and with an oil tank through a second control valve.
