    • A fiber tuft feeder includes a first chute; an opening roller supported at the outlet end of the first chute for receiving fiber tufts therefrom; a second chute extending downwardly from the opening roller; a densifying air stream generating arrangement for introducing a densifying air stream into the second chute to compress the fiber tufts therein; and a guide arrangement for orienting the densifying air stream toward the opening roller to combine the densifying air stream with an additional air stream generated by the opening roller by rotation thereof, for aligning the combined air stream in a direction of the second chute and for directing the combined air stream away from the opening roller into the second chute. There is further provided an arrangement for discharging fiber material from the second chute through an outlet thereof.

    • A carding machine includes a main carding cylinder; a doffer cooperating with the main carding cylinder for removing fiber material therefrom; a stripping roll cooperating with the doffer for removing a fiber web therefrom; upper and lower cooperating crushing rolls together defining a nip for grasping the fiber web running from the doffer and the stripping roll; and a fiber web supporting and guiding body stationarily positioned underneath the stripping roll. The body has a length dimension extending generally parallel to the rotary axis of the stripping roll and an upper surface for supporting and guiding thereon the fiber web. The upper surface has a width extending generally horizontally and transversely to the stripping roll axis and oppositely located first and second longitudinally extending edge zones. The first edge zone is situated in a region between the doffer and the stripping roll and the second edge zone is situated in a region between the stripping roll and the crushing rolls and is oriented towards the nip defined by the crushing rolls.

    • An apparatus for placing fiber bales in readiness for removing fiber tufts therefrom by a travelling bale opener having an operational range, includes a first arrangement for supporting thereon a plurality of consecutively positioned fiber bales forming a standby bale series having a leading end and a trailing end; and a second arrangement for supporting thereon a plurality of consecutively positioned fiber bales forming an operational bale series to be worked on by the bale opener. The trailing end of the standby bale series is at a greater distance from the second arrangement than the leading end. The second arrangement receives fiber bales from the first arrangement for replenishing the fiber bales of the operational bale series with fiber bales of the standby bale series. The apparatus further includes a bale transporting carriage for conveying a fiber bale to the trailing end of the standby bale series and for depositing the fiber bale, conveyed by the carriage, onto the first arrangement at the trailing end to replenish the standby bale series.

    • An apparatus for separating foreign matter from a pneumatically conveyed stream of textile fibers has a pneumatic duct in which the textile fibers are conveyed by an air stream; a waste container; first and second coupling openings for maintaining communication between the waste container and the pneumatic duct; and a gate pivotally supported in the pneumatic duct. The gate has a first position maintaining open the pneumatic duct and obturating the first and second coupling openings for allowing the fiber material to be conveyed by the air stream through the duct by bypassing the waste container. The gate further has a second position obturating a direct passage through the pneumatic duct and maintaining open the first and second coupling openings for directing the fiber material and the air stream from the pneumatic duct into the waste container and for allowing conveying air to pass from the waste container back into the pneumatic duct. The apparatus further has a detector for detecting foreign matter in the fiber material; and a control device connected to the detector and the gate for pivoting the gate from the first position into the second position upon detection of foreign matter by the detector.
