    • A simple demodulator circuit for demodulating high frequency pulse width modulated carrier signals, includes means for charging a capacitor to charge levels commensurate with the pulse widths. Output switch means, biased at the verge of conduction, discharge the capacitor charge at the ends of the pulses as an exponential signal with given time constant. Since the amplitudes of successive exponential signals are proportional to the respective capacitor charge levels, the charge levels are simultaneously read during the discharge process, thereby allowing demodulation at very high speeds.

    • The conventional vertical drive sawtooth is modified, during the camera setup mode, to halve the slope thereof for a given field time interval, or intervals, and to double the slope for the remaining field time interval. It follows that the speed of vertical scan is halved and doubled respectively, in the corresponding field time intervals. In the interval of double scan speed, blooming occurs and twice the usual beam current is required to successfully discharge the picture. Thus when the beam set circuit is in operation as during the setup mode, the beam current is increased until the blooming existing in the double scan speed interval just subsides. The beam current has then been set at 200% of typical beam level.

    • An input video processor utilizes the characteristics of a modulator having two differential pairs of transistors with respective gain control terminals, in combination with a switch. The processor performs four distinct functions utilizing the same basic modulator; it provides blanking the video signal from the preamplifier to provide a clean pulse for clamping at a later stage; it clamps the output during black level firmly to ground potential to allow subsequent blanking; it allows the manipulation of the master gain of the three channels in a color television while independently adjusting the gain of the channels, while further maintaining absolute tracking between channels; and it provides an independent gain control input for a white shading control voltage input to perform white shading corrections.

    • A modulation format for containing, for simultaneously transmitting via a single optical fiber, and for decoding, multiple independent wideband signals. The format derives maximum advantage from the inherent wideband properties of the optical fiber, while utilizing the concept that the signal-to-noise ratio of one channel (e.g., in a red, green, and blue color video signal) is preferably made substantially greater than that for the other two channels. This allows optimizing the signal-to-noise ratio of the signal channels while using a relatively simplified circuit implementation. To this end, the format waveform employs a stationary reference edge and multiple time-variable edges, wherein the time interval between the reference edge and the following time-variable edge of the same polarity always exceeds, or always is less than, one-half of the total available time period of the waveform. That is, the next time-variable edge of the same polarity as the stationary reference edge never crosses the half-way point of the total time period of the waveform in the course of being deviated. The above conditions allow a relatively simplified edge discrimination scheme and demultiplexing circuit.
