    • Observation-based user profiling and profile matching are provided. The network behavior of users of a computer-implemented social network are observed and used for user profiling. By observing network behavior instead of necessarily relying on user self-reported data, accurate and objective user profiles can be formed; user profiling is accomplished based on the observed network behaviors with or without the knowledge of the user being profiled. The observed network behaviors can include the customization of a visual graphic, a media preference, a communication preference, or a selection of words from a word list. The user profiles can be with respect to a domain and two or more users can be matched based on their profiles with respect to the same domain. User ratings and profile updating based on the ratings are also provided.

    • A semantic note taking system and method for collecting information, enriching the information, and binding the information to services is provided. User-created notes are enriched with labels, context traits, and relevant data to minimize friction in the note-taking process. In other words, the present invention is directed to collecting unscripted data, adding more meaning and use out of the data, and binding the data to services. Mutable and late-binding to services is also provided to allow private thoughts to be published to a myriad of different applications and services in a manner compatible with how thoughts are processed in the brain. User interfaces and semantic skins are also provided to derive meaning out of notes without requiring a great deal of user input.

    • A patient notification and response system comprises a communications network, a server, a workstation, and a remote motion device. The server is operatively connected to the communications network and comprises a database and a script generator. The database comprises script programs, where each script program is associated with a patient notification message. The script generator is configured to generate a script having one or more commands based on the script programs. The workstation is operatively connected to the communications network and displays a user interface configured to allow a first user to select a selected script program from the database on the server. The remote motion device operatively connected to the communications network, where the remote motion device is in the possession of a second user associated with a patient and comprises a speaker, a microphone, a motion system, and a controller. Based on the script commands of the selected script program, the controller causes the speaker to generate first audible signals perceivable by the second user, activates the motion system to cause movement of the remote motion device perceivable by the second user, and transmits to the first user responses generated based on second audible signals made by the second user in response to at least one of the first audible signals and the movement of the remote motion device.

    • A modular interactive system and method for customizing health education to an individual at a remote terminal to induce a modification in a health-related behavior of the individual. The automated system includes a questionnaire generator for questioning the individual to determine his or her motivational drivers and comprehension capacity. The questionnaire generator is a graphical user interface that allows a clinician to graphically attach questions to answer to action. A processor then generates a script program based on what the clinician has attached together. A profile generator receives answers entered by the individual from the remote terminal and generates a motivational driver profile and a comprehension capacity profile of the individual. A translator receives clinical data relating to a current health condition of the individual and translates the clinical data, the motivational driver profile, and the comprehension capacity profile into a profile code. An educational fulfillment bank matches the profile code to matching educational materials and transfers the matched educational materials to the remote terminal. An evaluation program evaluates educational responses of the individual and provides profile updates for targeting subsequent educational material to the individual based on the educational responses.
