    • A ball valve is disclosed having an improved seat ring particularly adapted for sealing a ball member in an end-loaded or top-loaded valve body. The ball is mounted for selective rotation and limited axial movement in a valve body passageway. The seat rings are disposed on diametrically opposite sides of the ball about valve inlet and outlet openings. Frusto-conical disc springs interposed between each seat ring and an associated valve body shoulder urge the seat rings into engagement with the ball. A rigid reinforcing ring is disposed intermediate of the flexible seat ring for integral movement with the seat ring and for reinforcing the seat ring against collapse under pressure. The reinforcing ring is received in an annular channel about the periphery of the seat ring and preferably comprises a split metal ring in a stressed and expanded condition.

    • A mounting bracket for securing a manifold valve to a support pipe is provided wherein plural support members extend outwardly from one leg of the bracket. The support members are designed to accommodate various manifold conformations, selective use of a steam block, and use of the same size mounting bolts. The mounting bracket is adaptable to securing on both horizontal and vertical support pipes through the use of a pair of U-bolts cooperating with four symmetrically spaced apertures. The mounting bracket facilitates installation of a differential pressure cell to an associated valve manifold independently from initial assembly of the manifold to the mounting bracket and connection of fluid system piping to the manifold.

    • A ball valve designed for high pressure shut-off at fluid pressures approaching the ultimate compressive stress of plastic annular seat rings which are employed. The ball member is trunnion mounted in order to carry the total force of the shut-off pressure and the seat rings are disposed in seat ring carriers. Each seat ring includes a spherical ball engaging surface having a radius slightly smaller than the radius of the ball. Each carrier is continuously urged toward the ball by a plurality of disc springs in order that the seat ring engaging surfaces will be in continuous sealing engagement with the ball surface. The seat ring engaging surfaces are configured so that at least the areas thereof located adjacent the outer diameters will be first to sealingly engage the ball. The valve components are configured and dimensioned to limit the effective area on which fluid pressure may act in urging the seat rings into ball contact for thus controlling compressive stresses which may be exerted on the plastic seat ring material. Also, fluid pressure urges the seat rings toward the ball to enhance sealing engagement with the ball regardless of the position of each seat ring upstream or downstream of the ball from the source of fluid pressure and also with the valve in the open position. The inventive concept involved may advantageously be employed in a variety of valve bodies to accommodate a plurality of fluid shut-off applications.

    • A drive nut for a fitting includes an interior socket centered on a central axis and configured to receive at least a rearward portion of a conduit gripping member. The socket is defined by a radial drive surface positioned to engage the conduit gripping member during pull-up, a first longitudinal surface radially outward of said drive surface and a tapered second longitudinal surface between the drive surface and the first longitudinal surface, wherein a conduit gripping device contacts the second longitudinal surface upon an initial pull-up and each remake. This geometry facilitates a greater number of available remakes by reducing lost stroke, and can provide less stroke loss for fittings pulled up by torque.

    • High localized loading, galling, and high torque forces have been generally eliminated or greatly reduced in a two ferrule tube fitting assembly through suitable modification of the rear ferrule so as to redirect the reaction forces acting between the front ferrule and the drive nut. The rear ferrule has a cylindrical interior wall that closely surrounds the tube end and is provided on the interior cylindrical wall with a circumferentially continuous radial recess that is located between the nose and rear wall of the rear ferrule. The rear ferrule also has a radially external wall that is substantially conical and additionally shaped to extend radially outward toward the enlarged diameter portion or flange of the rear ferrule. The rear ferrule further includes a contoured face on the rear driven surface of the ferrule that engages the drive surface of the drive nut.

    • A tube fitting that uses only two components, namely a fitting body and a fitting nut. The nut and body are adapted to be threadably coupled together by relative rotation therebetween. The nut includes an integral tube gripping ring that cooperates with a camming surface on the body when the fitting is made-up. The camming surface preferably has a steep camming angle. The ring is radially compressed against the tube outer wall to form a seal and a tight tube grip. The ring also forms a line contact-type seal against the camming surface. The ring is designed to have a hinging action and to plastically deform during pull-up to embed into the tubing for excellent tube grip, and an axially adjacent swage or collet zone that isolates any stress riser resulting from the embedding action from vibration effects. The fitting components, and particularly the ring, may be case hardened. The fitting may include a self-gauging feature to indicate sufficient pull-up and to prevent excessive pull-up. Also provided is a single ferrule tube fitting that uses a steep camming surface and has a hardness ratio that is at least about 3.3 times the hardness of the stainless steel tube end on the Vickers scale.
