    • The present invention relates to a continual comfort adjusting fastener for a footwear article and provides an alternative to fasteners that necessitate periodic attention by the wearer in order to maintain a proper combination of support, fit and comfort by utilizing spring mechanisms to induce a predetermined amount of tension between opposing eye flaps of the footwear article. In accordance with various exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the spring mechanism portion of the spring assembly that provides constant tension between eye flaps may be one of a tension spring, compression spring and torsion spring. The spring assembly is comprised substantially of a spring mechanism and may be fastened directly to eyelets in the footwear article. In accordance with other exemplary embodiments, the spring assembly is further comprised of locking eyelets which themselves are attached to the eye flap of the footwear article via rivets, thus replacing the eyelets. With respect to embodiments that make use of eyelets in the footwear eye flap, the attachment means for the spring mechanism is a simple “J” hook and thereby may be hooked into existing eyelets, alternatively the J hook attachment might be fastened to the aforementioned locking eyelets. The J hook attachment is open ended, thereby allowing the spring mechanism to be easily disconnected from the corresponding eyelet at any time for ease of entry into the footwear article and further, the J hook attachment configuration is compatible with all types of spring mechanisms.

    • A track seek method for a disk drive system. In the seek method of the present invention, the head is moved according to the characteristics of an ideal, electronically generated signal which is independent from data read off the disk. By varying the characteristics of the ideal signal, the seek profile is controlled. The ideal signal is sampled at times specified by an error signal which is based upon data read off the disk. The movement of the head is adjusted according to the sampled signal. Since track crossings correspond to ideal signal cycles, the number of tracks crossed is determined by counting the number of cycles of the ideal signal. Consequently, the position of the head is known at all times throughout the seek, thereby maintaining the seek in a closed-loop configuration during the entire seek. When the appropriate number of tracks have been counted, the head is stopped on the destination track and the head can access data contained therein. Furthermore, the seek operation's dynamic range may be increased by extending the range of each cycle of the ideal signal to cover more than one track.

    • A selectively floatable protective shroud is disclosed for protecting a boat hull from fouling by marine organisms. The assembly consists of an inflatable, elongated toroidal bladder with an inner opening larger than the circumference of the hull of the boat at its water line. The bladder has an inflation nozzle which is connected to a gas pump, for controllably inflating the bladder. A continuous, flexible, water impervious shroud has a circumferential edge mounted about the circumference of the toroidal bladder for protecting the boat hull, when deployed about the boat. By controllably inflating the bladder, the shroud is selectively brought from a submerged position beneath the boat to a deployed position enveloping the hull of the boat so as to protect the hull from fouling by marine organisms. A water pump is disclosed being connected to a water drain nozzle mounted on the flexible shroud, for controllably pumping out sea water from the region between the flexible shroud and the boat hull. Various embodiments for guide members are disclosed which are mounted to the sea bed floor and are connected to the bladder for guiding the shroud from the submerged position to the deployed position enveloping the hull of the boat. Various control and interlock mechanisms are disclosed for conveniently operating the system from onboard the boat.
