    • A picture signal recording system comprises a high-definition broadcasting station 1, an artificial satellite 2, a television receiver 3 and a video signal recording apparatus 5. A pilot signal P is superimposed on a luminance signal Y at the broadcasting station 1. This pilot signal P does not give any adverse influence to an image reproduced on a TV monitor and is detectable from the luminance signal Y. A frequency of this pilot signal is selected to be smaller than the frequency of the luminance signal Y, a superimposing timing thereof is set to a head position of the luminance signal Y, and an amplitude thereof is varied with respect to a grey level as a variation center. The pilot signal P superimposed on the luminance signal Y is detected by a pilot signal detecting circuit 53 within a video signal recording apparatus 5. The picture signal is recorded on a video tape 11 and rerecording prohibit information is recorded in a reserved area by a picture signal recording process circuit 51. When the video tape 11 on which this rerecording prohibit information has been recorded is reproduced, the reproduced picture signal is prohibited to be rerecorded.

    • An audio signal recording apparatus and method for recording an video signal (e.g., a half field) and at least four channels of audio signals corresponding to the video signal to a plurality of tracks on a tape. The audio signals are recorded to recording blocks in an audio recording area which are separated from a recording area for the corresponding video signal in accordance with a priority rating. More specifically, the at least four channels of audio signals are divided into groups each having a plurality of channels. The audio signal recording area is divided into a plurality of recording blocks in the longitudinal direction of the tracks and each group of audio data is recorded to one of the audio signal recording blocks. Each group of audio data is assigned a priority rating depending on the importance of the data contained therein. Audio data having a high priority are recorded to blocks that are located further away from the track ends than those for audio data having a low priority. Since the contact fit between the tape and a recording head at the track ends is unstable, by recording the audio data of high priorities in blocks located relatively for away from the track ends where the tape-to-head contact fit is more stable, deterioration in sound quality is minimized for the important data upon reproduction.

    • A device for recycling residual developer particles which are removed from a photoconductive element by a cleaning unit in an electrographic copier or printer is disclosed. The device comprises a first tube connected to the cleaning unit and a second tube which is connected to the first tube and leads to the developer unit. The second tube is disposed along the developer unit. The residual particles are transferred from the cleaning device through the first tube and into the second tube. The second tube is provided with holes spaced at predetermined distances from each other. The residual particles fall through these holes and co-mingle with developer material stored in the developer unit. In a preferred embodiment, the holes increase in size as one goes along the second tube. In another preferred embodiment, an auger is used to deliver the residual particles to the first tube. A second auger is disposed within the second tube to move the residual particles over the holes. An even distribution of residual particles within the developer unit is thereby attained.
