    • A physical layer (PHY) module includes NT radio frequency (RF) channels and a mapping module. The NT RF channels each include N subcarriers. One of the NT different complex gains is applied to each of the N outputs of a corresponding one of the NT outputs.     • Techniques are provided for transmitting and receiving a mother code in an incremental redundancy hybrid automatic repeat-request protocol. A set of information bits corresponding to a message may be encoded and interleaved to produce the mother code. Each bit position of the mother code may be mapped to an output symbol, and each output symbol may be mapped to an antenna for transmission. One or more transmissions of symbols contained in the output symbols may be performed, where each transmission may include puncturing the mother code by selecting one or more symbols from the of output symbols, and transmitting each symbol in the one or more symbols on an antenna corresponding to that symbol. The mother code may be decoded, in part, by determining combinable bits contained within a set of received symbols, and computing one or more log-likelihood ratio values corresponding to each symbol in the set of received symbols.

    • Systems and methods are provided for decoding a signal vector in a transmission scheme that uses transmit diversity as well as HARQ, repetition coding, or any other protocol that allows a receiver to obtain multiple reception of common transmit information. Information obtained in more than one symbol period are treated as a single received vector, and each of the received signal vectors may be processed to reduce or remove phase rotations caused by the channel. The received signal vectors may be combined by addition and decoded using a maximum-likelihood decoder. In some embodiments, the transmitter and receiver are configured to communicate using the transmit diversity scheme and a spatial multiplexing scheme. The scheme may be chosen based on the quality of the channel through which communication takes place.

    • A system and method for managing user preference settings in a vehicle includes an electronic control unit having a microcontroller and memory. The electronic control unit controls vehicle accessory devices. A data controller is in communication with the microcontroller of the electronic control unit for receiving the user preference data to control the accessory devices. The keyless receiver is in communication with the microcontroller of the electronic control unit for receiving a control signal from a key fob. A PDA including a processor, memory, and transceiver in electrical communication can be used to transmit the user preference data to the data controller. The preference data is transmitted to the memory of the electronic control unit, which executes an algorithm to control the accessory devices according to the user preference data.

    • A received signal that includes a plurality of user signals is demodulated. The plurality of user signals includes at least a first user signal and a second user signal. The first user signal corresponds to first user data that has been modulated independently of second user data corresponding to the second user signal, and the first user signal is encoded with a first finite state machine encoder independently of the other user signals. The first finite state machine encoder has a number of states S1. The second user signal is encoded with a second finite state machine encoder independently of the other user signals, and the second finite state machine encoder has a number of states S2. Demodulating the received signal includes calculating distances between (i) each transmit symbol in the received signal and (ii) expected symbol values, wherein each expected symbol value corresponds to user data for multiple users including the first user and the second user. The first user data in the received signal is decoded based on the calculated distances utilizing a finite state machine decoder having S1 states.

    • Devices, methods, and other embodiments associated with phase based preamble detection are described. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a wireless transceiver, an evaluation logic, and a configuration logic. The wireless transceiver receives a wireless signal from a wireless device. The wireless signal includes a preamble sequence. The evaluation logic evaluates the preamble sequence by comparing phases of the preamble sequence to phases of predefined preamble sequences to identify a matching preamble sequence. The comparison is done without using amplitude information. The configuration logic configures the wireless transceiver to synchronize wireless communications with the wireless device based, at least in part, on the matching preamble sequence.
