    • This invention describes a method for a redundancy version implementation of an uplink (UL) enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) in mobile communication systems by calculating a redundancy version number (RVN) as a function of a connection frame number (CFN), a maximum number of processed HARQs (hybrid automatic repeat requests) NARQ, and a number of redundancy versions NRV. Instead of signaling a RV parameter outband in UL, the RVN is determined by the network element using simple rules which ensures that the same RVN is never used successively for the same HARQ process, and that all possible RV numbers are used for one HARQ process.

    • A method and a device are considered for implementing minimum activity during discontinuous transmission in a telecommunication connection used to carry a service. The service is allowed to involve transmitting upper-level scheduled silence-breaking transmissions at predetermined regular intervals during otherwise silent periods. There is determined (407, 408, 409) a maximum length of a silent period that is longer than the predetermined regular intervals between upper-level scheduled silence-breaking transmissions. A Layer 2 entity of a protocol stack observes (411) the occurrence of silent periods and transmits (412) a dummy block over the telecommunication connection if the length of an observed silent period reaches said maximum length without an upper-level scheduled silence-breaking transmission having been transmitted.

    • A method and a device for transferring signalling information in a TDMA based system. Temporal alignment of values for a retransmission number parameter (R) with the TDMA frame structure is determined on the basis of which a first radio packet to be sent in a number of first TDMA frames is encoded by using a certain first value for the parameter and a second radio packet to be sent in a number of second TDMA frames is encoded by using a certain second value for the parameter. The first and second radio packets are transmitted to the recipient that adheres to the same temporal alignment rules and can thus properly decode both the packets. The solution can be utilized especially in GERAN radio access network with FLO (Flexible Layer One) for transferring signalling information on half-rate channels.

    • The present invention relates to a method in a transmitter for interleaving information bits from a data block into transmission bursts. Each of the information bits is assigned with an index. The interleaving includes computing positions of the information bits in the transmission bursts such that the values of the indexes of at least a portion of the information bits are modified. At a receiver it is determined if the value of any of the indexes has been modified before transmission of the transmission bursts. Based on the determination, de-interleaving of the information bits is then accomplished based on modified values of the indexes or originally assigned values of the indexes.
