摘要： A filter for removing contaminants from air. The filter includes (a) a substrate that does not have any volatile ammonia on the surface thereof; (b) copper that has been impregnated onto the substrate; and (c) molybdenum and/or tungsten that has been impregnated onto the substrate. The filter can be made using an aqueous solution(s) that contains one or more of a first copper salt and a second salt that include a polynuclear anion that contains molybdenum, tungsten, or both. Because the metals can be impregnated onto the substrate surface without using an ammonium-based solution, the need to manage ammonia off-gassing is avoided. Further, no volatile ammonia would be present on the resulting substrate surface.

摘要： Microcrystalline alpha-alumina based ceramic articles comprising at least 60% alumina by weight, and 0.1-7.0 percent by weight iron equivalence in which substantially all the alumina is in the alpha phase having a uniform grain structure comprising alpha alumina crystallites with an average crystallite size less than 0.5 micrometer and a density greater than 90% theoretical are disclosed. Ceramic articles particularly useful as high modulus refractory fibers, among other shaped bodies such as beads, flakes, coatings, and shaped or randomly-shaped abrasive particles, are produced from a unique sol-gel process wherein hydroxy iron polymers are utilized to nucleate the alpha alumina transformation. An inherent advantage of the unique process disclosed is the resulting fine grained microstructure, and a surface roughness height of less than 100.0 nm, which is essential if a ceramic article such as an alpha alumina fiber is to have reasonable strength.

摘要： A nano-scale tower structure array having increased surface area on each tower for gathering incident light is provided for use in three-dimensional solar cells. Embodiments enhance surface roughness of each tower structure to increase the surface area available for light gathering. Enhanced roughness can be provided by manipulating passivation layer etching parameters used during a formation process of the nano-scale tower structures, in order to affect surface roughness of a photoresist layer used for the etch. Manipulable etching parameters can include power, gas pressure, and etching compound chemistry.
