    • There is provided to an apparatus and method for selecting a beam having an optimal channel characteristic among multiple beams, which are formed at a digital TV receiver employing a switched beamforming part. The beam selecting apparatus of the digital TV receiver having a switched beamformer and a channel equalize includes: a correlating unit for calculating cross-correlation values with respect to previous known Field Sync signals and Field Sync signals of beams having energy larger than a predefined value among beams outputted from the switched beamformer; a channel profile extracting unit for extracting multi-path channel profiles of the beams by using the cross-correlation values; an effective signal path searching unit for obtaining the number of effective signal paths having values larger than a predefined threshold based on the channel profiles; and a beam selecting unit for selecting beams of a channel profile having the smallest number of the effective signal paths among the beams outputted from the switched beamforming means as an input beam of the channel equalizer.

The repeater receives signals on one channel and distributes the signals on the same channel by converting RF signals from a main transmitter into baseband signals; equalizing them in a high-performance equalizer, adding a repeater identifier to them; modulating the baseband signals with the repeater identifier into RF signals. The repeater includes: a receiver for receiving RF signals; a demodulator for demodulating the RF signals into baseband signals; an equalizer for equalizing the baseband signals; an adder for adding a repeater identifier to the baseband signals; a modulator for modulating the baseband signals with the repeater identifier added in the adder into RF signals; and a transmitter for transmitting the RF signals modulated in the modulator. The technology of the present invention is used to form an on-channel repeating network in an arbitrary transmission system including a digital television broadcasting system.

    • Provided is a modulation apparatus that can reduce time delay of on-channel repeaters in a terrestrial digital television broadcasting system. The time delay is caused by a filter during the modulation operation in the on-channel repeaters. The modulation apparatus of the present research includes: a baseband signal forming unit for forming a baseband signal by combining the output signals of an equalization unit with the pre-defined field/segment synchronization signals in the on-channel repeaters; a pilot inserting unit for inserting a pilot signal to the baseband signal; an up-sampling unit for up-sampling the baseband signal with the pilot signal; a VSB filtering unit for filtering the up-sampled baseband signal based on a Window technique and/or an Equi-Ripple filter to thereby form an in-phase (I) signal and a quadrature (Q) signal; an up-converting unit for up-converting the frequencies of the filtered I and Q signals to frequencies of an intermediate frequency (IF) band; an adding unit for adding the up-converted I and Q signals and converting a resultant signal into a digital VSB signal of the IF band; and a digital-to-analogue converting unit for converting the digital signal of the IF band to an analogue signal.

    • Disclosed are a method and a system for estimating food commodity intakes. The method includes (a) obtaining a food intake of a food searched as a subject to be estimated for food commodity intake based on food intake database, (b) obtaining a material mix ratio of the food searched based on the material mix ratio database and estimating a material mix ratio intake using the food intake, (c) detecting whether or not the material contained in the material mix ratio intake estimation results is a food commodity, (d) accumulating a weight data of the material that is detected to be a food commodity among the materials obtained from the material mix ratio intake estimation results, (e) repeatedly performing operations (b) to (d) on materials that are not food commodities, until all of the materials contained in the material mix ratio intake estimation results become food commodities, and (f) summing the accumulated weight data of each food commodity to estimate a food commodity intake of the food, when all of the materials contained in the material mix ratio intake estimation results are food commodities. According to the present invention, more accurate food intake data can be conveniently estimated by converting all ingredients of mixed foods into food commodities.
