    • A pressing method and apparatus for dewatering a fibre web, such as a paper or cardboard web, in a paper machine press section including two press rolls through which the web is conducted carried on either a single fabric or interposed between a pair of fabrics. The web is pre-pressed in a pre-pressing zone located in the throat region between the press rolls. The pre-pressing pressure is applied to the web through the mediation of a substantially impermeable band which passes through the press nip in overlying relationship with the web as the latter is conducted over a sector of one of the press rolls. After the pre-pressing step, the web is immediately conducted through the zone of the press nip, the pressing of the web which takes place in the press nip determining the dry matter content of the web subsequent thereto. The pre-pressing zone immediately precedes the zone of the press nip so that the pre-pressing and nip zones together in combination constitute a pressing zone. The peak pressing pressure present in the press nip zone is greater than the pressure in the preceding pre-pressing zone.

    • The invention concerns a means for saving energy in a hydraulic circuit where pressurized oil supplied by a hydraulic pump is used to activate various functions by the aid of one or several valves (2,3,4) controlling the function. Such a hydraulic circuit is especially suitable for use in agricultural tractors, where the pressurized oil comes from a hydraulic pump driven by the engine. In conventional hydraulic circuits, a drawback is that the pressurized oil is directed through a pressure regulating valve, thereby causing unnecessary waste of energy and a need to cool the oil. This drawback is eliminated, as taught by the invention, in that a free circulation valve (1) is connected into the hydraulic circuit to cooperate with the valves (2,3,4) controlling the different functions in such manner that when at least one of the function-controlling valves (2,3,4) is open the free circulation valve (1) is closed and that when all function-controlling valves (2,3,4) are closed the free circulation valve (1) is open.

In the procedure, air is blown on such surfaces which are susceptible to condensate precipitation. Air jets (F.sub.1,F.sub.2) are blown mainly obliquely downward through air ducts (11A,11B) disposed adjacent to both side walls (7A,7B) of the hood (1), above all towards the inner surfaces of the door, hatch and/or window structures (12A,12B,16,17) in association with the lower part of the walls (7A,7B) of the hood (1). The blowing air is taken to the air ducts (11A,11B) from the air within the hood (1) or as a mixture of air within the hood (1) and of dry replacement air. For air ducts (11A,11B) are used horizontal air ducts (11A,11B) extending the length of the hood (1) and on which have been disposed blowing nozzles (8A,8B), of which the blowing direction is obliquely towards the inner surfaces of doors (12A,12B) or equivalent of the hood (1) adjacent to them or below them.

    • A closed press section of a paper machine in which a paper web leaving the wire section of the paper machine is passed, supported by a first upper fabric, through a first double-felted press nip formed by two hollow-faced rolls. The lower fabric in the first double-felted press nip is a second fabric which carries the web forwardly after the first press nip. The press section further includes a smooth-faced central roll against which at least two single-felt nips are formed, the press fabric in the first one of the single-felt nips being constituted by the second fabric. The web is detached from the second fabric and adheres to the face of the smooth-faced central roll and moves along therewith into the next single-felt nip. The press section is devoid of press rolls of the suction type with the first double-felted press nip being formed between two solid-mantle hollow-faced rolls. The run of the lower fabric and web carried thereby is turned downwardly prior to the first single-felt press nip guided by a sector of a roll having a magnitude in the range of about 30.degree. to 160.degree.. The web is passed through the first double-felted press nip and the at least two single-felt nips so that the face of the web which did not contact the forming wire contacts the smooth face of the central roll of the press in the second and third press nips.

    • An improvement in a web-forming section of a paper machine intended as a modernization of a fourdrinier-wire part by which an improved formation of the web and an adjustable dewatering thereof by which better retention and desired distribution of fillers and fines is achieved. The web-forming section constitutes an improvement in an arrangement which includes a fourdrinier wire loop having a wire run which constitutes a lower wire of the web-forming section and which forms a single-wire initial portion of a dewatering zone of the web-forming section, and an upper wire unit which together with a run of the lower wire forms a two-wire dewatering zone within which dewatering takes place through the upper wire, wherein a first open faced forming roll is situated within the upper wire loop so that the two-wire dewatering zone begins in the region of the first forming roll, a horizontal plane tangent to the lower part of the first forming roll being substantially coplanar with the plane of the lower wire, a forming shoe within the fourdrinier wire loop having a curved deck which guides the joint run of the upper and lower wires, a reversing roll situated within the upper wire loop after the forming shoe and which guides a joint run of the upper and lower wires over an upwardly curved sector thereof until the joint run substantially coincides with the plane of the lower fourdrinier wire. Initial dewatering occurs in the single-wire initial portion of the dewatering zone to an appropriate extent through the lower wire. In the two-wire dewatering zone, dewatering occurs first within the sector of the first open forming roll in two directions through both the upper and lower wires whereupon within the region of the forming shoe, the dewatering takes place primarily upwardly through the upper wire.

    • A method is employed in a press section of a paper machine for changing a pick-up and/or press fabric, the substantial run of which when the fabric is in its normal operating position, passes above a group of nip defining press rollers. Insert members of the machine frame are removed to define gaps therewithin and the press nip or nips through which the fabric passes are open. In the method, upper guide rollers situated within and guiding the loop of the fabric are shifted from an upper operating position occupied thereby when the fabric is in its normal operating position to a lower position and the fabric to be changed is transported with the same being wound in double manner on a changing pole. The fabric is opened and spread out to define a loop which encircles all of the press and guide rollers which will be situated within the fabric loop when the fabric is in its normal operating position. The loop so formed and transported is passed into the machine frame through the gaps defined therein by the removal of the insert members therefrom and into the open press nips. The fabric situated within the machine frame is spread out from the changing pole while the upper guide rollers are shifted from the lower position back to their upper operating position, whereupon the insert members are replaced in the machine frame and the opened press nips are closed.
