    • A control system is provided for efficiently regulating the discharge of material from a mobile material distribution device having a product tank or bin, a boom with at least one boom section, a plurality of outlet ducts (e.g., nozzles and/or distribution ports) associated with each boom section, shut-off valves for selectively enabling each boom section, and a selectively-movable control valve for regulating the flow of material to the boom sections. The control system includes a boom sensing input for monitoring whether the shut-off valves are open or closed (i.e., whether the associated boom sections are enabled or disabled), and a processing system for maintaining a substantially stable pressure level between the control valve and each shutoff valve by positionally locking the control valve at its last controlled position upon receiving a signal from the boom sensing input indicating the shut-off valves are closed. Based information received from the boom sensing input, other feedback sensors, and/or manually entered by the user, the processing system selectively regulates the control valve of the material distribution device so as to precisely regulate the material dispersal rate through the enabled boom sections and to provide the material distribution device with certain useful functions including loading, unloading, and agitation features.

    • A granular and liquid material spreading system mounted on a vehicle. Granular material is moved from a hopper to a delivery system using hydraulic pumps and motors. The hydraulic system also drives a liquid delivery system. A control system including a material computer is provided to control the amount of granular material and liquid material applied to a surface. The feed rate of liquid delivery is controlled electronically by programming the material computer as a function of the feed rate of the granular material. The liquid feed rate may be changed within a predetermined range. The level of liquid may be sensed to disengaged the liquid delivery system. Initiation of liquid delivery reduces the feed rate of granular material by a variably selected percentage.

    • An injection mixing apparatus is provided for use with a spraying system carried on a mobile vehicle of the type including a spray bar, a carrier reservoir for holding a supply of a liquid carrier medium, a main pump interposed between the carrier reservoir and the spray bar, a flow control valve interposed between the main pump and the spray bar, a ground speed sensor for developing a ground speed signal corresponding to the speed of the vehicle, a pressure sensor for sensing the pressure across the spray bar and developing a corresponding pressure signal and a supply of chemical agent to be mixed with the carrier at a desired concentration for delivery at the spray bar. The injection mixing apparatus comprises at least one injection control loop with an injection pump coupled intermediate the supply and the main pump for injecting the chemical agent into the carrier ahead of the main pump, and an injection controller for controlling the injection pump. The injection controller comprises a tachometer for sensing the rotational speed of the injection pump and developing a corresponding rotational speed signal and a pump control circuit for developing a speed control signal for controlling the pump rotational speed in response to a first input signal and a feedback signal comprising the rotational speed signal. A system controller develops the first input signal and includes a circuit for developing a flow rate signal corresponding to the flow rate of material to the spray bar, and for applying this flow rate signal to the pump control circuit as the first input signal.

    • A fluid delivery system (10) is provided for delivering at least one chemical (26) onto a field in a desired concentration. A carrier fluid (67) is provided for diluting the farm chemical (26). The mixture is pumped through a spray boom (18) onto the field by a main fluid pump (74). The chemical (26) is delivered to the inlet port (76) of the main fluid pump (74) by a chemical pump (54). The chemical pump (54) is operated by a variable speed stepping motor (56). The speed of the stepping motor (56) is controlled by a speed sensing wheel (88) to provide a uniform concentration of chemical on the field independent of vehicle speed. The motor speed is also controlled by a thumbwheel switch (116) to deliver a desired concentration on the field compensating for drive vehicle wheel slippage. The motor speed is also adjusted to calibrate the delivery concentration to the nozzle pattern through calibration switches.

    • A spray unit and process for controlled droplet atomization in which a tangential vortex type fan with wide mouth passes operation from low-to-medium pressures at high volume, passes air through a throat in which controlled droplet atomization of spray material is being achieved prior to emission from the fan in a plane generally parallel to the flow of air. The flow of air sweeps the droplets into a parallel orientation in substantial avoidance of contact of the spray material on the fan parts, throat or mouth thereof and the airflow confines the continuous core of controlled droplets and projects the protected spray toward a target. The spray units are arranged to permit plural end-to-end adjacent articulated mounting with directional adjustment and flexible conduits for power at the individual units, including spray material delivery and power to lineal actuators and are carriage mounted on wheels for easy movement in the target area.
