    • A shredding machine is disclosed for shredding sheet material such as paper documents. The machine comprises an electric cutting mechanism which is operable to shred the sheet material, and has a collection bin arranged below the cutting mechanism for collection of the resulting shreds. The collection bin is movable in a pivotal manner between a first position in which it permits operation of the cutting mechanism and collects the shreds, and a second position in which it stops operation of the cutting mechanism. The bin is configured to move from the first position to the second position in response to the weight of shreds collected in the bin and the force acting on the collected shreds by fresh shreds exiting the cutting mechanism exceeding a predetermined threshold value (FIG. 1).

    • The present invention relates to a disk section (1) for use in the construction of a grinding disk (10) such as may be used in wood hogging, chipping, or grinding apparatus. The disk section (1) is associated with a substantially wedge shaped retaining segment (30) which is positioned near the circumference of the assembled grinding disk(10), and preferentially overlaps at least part of two adjacent disk sections (1) thereon. The arrangement is such that tangential type impacts acting on a disk section (1) results in at least partial energy transmission to the retaining segment (30) and its connection (38, 39) to a hub (9).

    • A wire chopper module for processing spent electrode emerging from an EDM system employs replaceable inserts that are also movable relative to the feed path of the electrode. Shifting the position of the inserts relative to the feed path of the electrode allows more than one portion of each cutting edge on the insert to be used. Each insert has more than one cutting edge and can be rotated and re-inserted to present a completely new cutting edge. Removable multi-edge inserts that are repositionable relative to the feed path of the spent electrode permit renewal of the cutting edges of the wire chopper module with increased frequency and reduced cost. The wire chopper module also incorporates a flywheel to increase the movement of inertia of the rotating cutting inserts as an aid in overcoming jams. Sharp cutting edges and increased rotational momentum improve the reliability of the inventive wire chopper module.
