摘要： The magnetic disk drive system has a read head and a write head, writes data on the track of the disk, and reads data on the track of the disk. In the present invention, the distance between the heads in the circumferential direction of the disk is computed. The distance between the heads is computed based on the distance between the position of the write head where said data is written and the position of the read head where said data is read. The timing when data is written by the write head is determined by adding said distance to the position where the data is written. Thus, the efficiency of the format of the disk is improved.

摘要： Three kinds of stop patterns are recorded at the same cylinder position of at least three recording surfaces of disk media. Each pattern is a division pattern in which one circumference is divided into two portions and which are recorded therein. Phases of the division patterns are sequentially deviated in the circumferential direction every 120.degree.. When a motor is activated, the motor stop position is detected on the basis of the stop patterns of the disk media and activating conditions to rotate the motor in a predetermined direction, thereby activating the brushless DC motor having no Hall sensor.

摘要： A servo control system and method for accurately controlling the actuator in a rotatable storage device by adjusting a corrective control signal according to the mode of operation of the actuator and the direction of actuator movement. During track following the corrective control signal is adjusted by a first factor determined by the ratio of a nominal force or torque factor to the actual force or torque factor at the current radial actuator position. When the actuator is seeking in a first direction, the corrective control signal is adjusted by a second factor determined by adjusting the first factor by a first amount, K.sub.fwd. When seeking in the reverse direction, the corrective control signal is adjusted by a third factor determined by adjusting the first factor by a second amount, K.sub.rev. K.sub.fwd incorporates measured variations in force or torque factor when the actuator is moving in the forward direction. Similarly, K.sub.rev incorporates measured variations in the force or torque factor when the actuator is moving in the reverse direction.

摘要： In an optical disc drive, a rapid access to a target track within a program area is enabled in case of accidental reentry of an optical pick-up into a lead-in area during an access operation. Upon mounting a compact disc, a maximum relative address TLm within the lead-in area is detected and stored in a memory. If it is found during an accessing operation that a current position lies within the lead-in area, a total number of tracks interposed between the current position and the target position within the program area can be obtained based on a current address, the maximum relative address and a target address of the target position, thereby achieving a high speed accessing operation.

摘要： A method for controlling assertion of a write inhibit signal in a disk drive is described. The disk drive comprises at least one rotating disk having data recording surfaces, and a head for each recording surface. Each head is mounted by an actuator for selective positioning of the head over the respective disk surface. Each disk surface includes data tracks. The method comprises the steps of calculating and storing a write inhibit threshold value for each head in the disk drive, performing a track following operation to determine position of a preselected head relative to a preselected data track, retrieving the write inhibit threshold value for the preselected head, comparing the determined head position to the retrieved write inhibit threshold value and asserting a write inhibit signal upon a certain relationship between the determined head position and the retrieved write inhibit threshold value.

摘要： A method of protecting a magnetic recording medium includes measuring a time period over which a main power supply continues to remain in an off state and the magnetic recording medium continues to remain loaded at a predetermined position. If the measured time period attains a first predetermined time period (e.g. 60 minutes), the recording medium is rotated for a second predetermined time period (e.g. several second), thereby preventing a magnetic recording/playback head from leaving its impression on the recording medium due to continuous pressing contact between the two at the same location on the recording medium.
