    • This invention relates to a heat pump system and in particular to a heat pump system and method for heating a fluid. According to one aspect of the invention, there is provided a heat pump system for heating a fluid, said system including: an evaporator for extracting heat from a heat source to vaporise a refrigerant; a compressor fluidly connected to said evaporator for compressing said refrigerant vapour; a condenser fluidly connected to said compressor for transferring heat from said compressed refrigerant to said fluid; a main expansion device fluidly connecting said condenser to said evaporator for reducing the temperature of the refrigerant; means for diverting and reducing the temperature of a portion of said refrigerant from said condenser, and means for fluidly injecting said temperature reduced refrigerant portion into said compressor such that said temperature reduced refrigerant portion mixes with said refrigerant vapour at an intermediate pressure and induces at least quasi-two-stage compression of said refrigerant vapour and said refrigerant portion for discharge into said condenser. According to another aspect of the invention, there is provided a method for heating a fluid, said method including the steps of: extracting heat from a heat source to vaporise a refrigerant; compressing said refrigerant vapour to increase its temperature; transferring heat from said compressed refrigerant vapour to said fluid; diverting and reducing the temperature of a portion of said refrigerant after said transferring step; reducing the temperature of said refrigerant; introducing said temperature reduced refrigerant portion during said compressing step such that said temperature reduced refrigerant portion mixes with said refrigerant vapour at an intermediate pressure and induces at least quasi-two-stage compression of said refrigerant vapour and said refrigerant portion, and discharging said compressed refrigerant to transfer heat to said fluid in said transferring step.

    • A method of utilizing the high energy values of fossile fuels in central heating boiler systems. The boiler system comprises a processor which includes an air heat pump (5) which functions to cool the system flue gases by condensation. A first fan (10) generates a first circulation (C.sub.1) of boiler room air, via the air heat pump (5), this circulation of air also passing through a heat exchanger (4) where heat exchange takes place with the flue gases. A second air circulation (C.sub.2) is generated with the aid of a flue-gas fan (7) which removes flue gases from the boiler by suction, thereby generating a subpressure in the boiler room so that fresh air will be drawn in from the ambient surroundings, this air passing through the heat exchanger (4). A lower pressure is maintained on that side of the heat exchanger (4) on which the air/flue gas mixture (C.sub.2) flows into the heat exchanger, whereas a higher pressure is maintained on the other side of the heat exchanger (4) on which the air/flue gas mixture (C.sub. 2) flows into the heat exchanger (4) on which the cooling boiler-room air circulates (C.sub.1). This will ensure that flue gases will always flow out to the free atmosphere, via the heat exchanger (4). The exhaust air/flue gas mixture is caused to pass a cooling device (21) and thereby pre-cooled prior to passing through the heat exchanger in said second circulation.

    • Apparatus for changing the temperature of an infusible liquid from a first temperature to a second predetermined temperature. The apparatus includes a receiver assembly for changing the temperature of the liquid. The apparatus also includes a cartridge to be received in the assembly and which defines an enclosed passageway for movement of the fluid. The cartridge has a first end, a second end, a liquid inlet disposed adjacent the first end, a liquid output disposed adjacent the second end, and a first wall extending between the ends and made of a material having good heat transfer properties. The assembly includes a thermoelectric heat pump, and a slot is provided for releasably receiving the cartridge so that the heat pump engages the wall of the cartridge. The assembly also includes a temperature sensor engaging the wall adjacent the ouptut and an electric circuit which is responsive to the temperature sensor for controlling operation of the heat pump so that the liquid exiting the cartridge is at the predetermined temperature.

    • The apparatus includes a condenser (4), through which passes a duct (3") that carries, downward, the fumes from heating boiler (1) to bring them into a lower chamber (5). The fumes are mixed with ambient air in this chamber (5), a mixture that is then moved upward, going through the evaporator (4) by the action of a fan (9), placed contiguous to the collection chamber (10), placed above the evaporator (4). Together with the recovery of heat from the fumes there is a recovery of the heat contained in the ambient air. Besides the high efficiency that can be obtained with a limited capital investment, in the case of fumes the apparatus purifies them of the solid particles in suspension and even noxious gaseous components. The apparatus is used independently of the hot gas, for example, to heat water for domestic use. The air that is exhausted by the fan (9) after having given up its heat inside the evaporator (4) can be used for conditioning a closed area.
