    • Press rollers for being pressed respectively against wires are provided on an upper side of the wires while length-measuring rollers for respectively contacting the wires are provided on a lower side of the wires. A number of revolutions of each length-measuring roller is detected by an encoder, and an amount of actual feed of each wire is detected in accordance with its revolution number, and a pulse signal, representing its detection value, is sent to a comparison processing portion of a controller. In this comparison processing portion, the amount of actual feed of each wire, detected by the encoder, is compared with a predetermined feed amount of a feed roller beforehand given as an instruction to the processing portion, and if there is any difference between the two, an instruction is given to a servo amplifier, and the servo amplifier sends an instruction to a servo motor for driving the feed roller so as to rotate the servo motor in a normal or a reverse direction in accordance with this difference.

    • Strip guiding apparatus includes a roll rotatable about its longitudinal axis over which strip will travel while under tension. Sensing apparatus determines the lateral position of the strip with respect to the desired position and emits signals to control apparatus which will effect responsive rotation of support apparatus in order to effect rotation of the roll about a second axis which is spaced from and oriented generally perpendicular to the roll longitudinal axis responsive to lateral movement of the strip in relation to the desired position. Drive apparatus effects rotation of the support apparatus responsive to receipt of signals from the control apparatus in order to move the strip toward the desired position. Apparatus is also provided for measuring strip tension and emitting signals to tension controlling apparatus to adjust tension where it is not within a desired range. The drive apparatus is adapted to effect rotation of the roll about the second axis in either rotatable direction and up to about 15 degrees in each direction. An associated method is provided.

    • A drive assembly for operatively rotating a web spreading roll of a paper mill or the like utilizes a toothed belt for transferring rotational motion from a motor-operated driving toothed pulley to a freewheeling or otherwise rotatably mounted driven toothed pulley. The driven pulley is, in turn, coupled to at least one of the plural rotary driven roll segments of and that are carried on the curved shaft of the web spreading roll. To minimize wear on the toothed belt, the driving and driven pulleys are fixedly mounted in positions of permanent alignment with one another, as by mounting both the drive motor and the driven pulley on the shaft bearings housing located at one end of the spreading roll shaft. A flexible coupling, as in the form of a rubber or otherwise suitably resilient bellows or the like, connects the driven pulley to the at least one roll segment for transferring rotation of the driven pulley to the roll segment so as to operatively rotate the web spreading roll.

    • A tape guide structure, for use in a video cassette recorder ("VCR") into which a tape cassette is loaded, comprises a guide post and a post cap. The guide post is provided with a lower cylindrical portion and an upper cylindrical portion with a diameter less than that of the lower portion. The guide post is fixed to a deck. The post cap is provided with a head portion with a slant surface and is fixed on top of the guide post. According to the tape guide structure of the present invention, even though the tape cassette is loaded into the VCR with the tape loosened to the extend that it passes over the central axis of the guide post, the tape comes in contact with the slant surface of the head portion, thereby allowing the tape to be loaded into a correct position.
