    • Operating a power saw between a pair of parallel guide rails, which engage opposing sides of saw base plate to constrain the motion of the saw to a straight path, allows for precise cuts. A set of two or more fences allows for multiple cutting options. In some embodiments, non-parallel fences coupled to the guide rails allow for precise cuts at more than just a single angle. In some embodiments, two fences may engage opposing sides of the object to be cut simultaneously, holding the object more securely with respect to the guide rails than would a single fence. A possible clamping force holding the two fences against the object allows the miter guide to remain fixed relative to the object so that the user's hand may be freed for another task, such as holding the saw with both hands.

    • A portable circular saw has a housing and a baseplate. The housing carries a motor which is connected to a blade through a transmission mechanism. The baseplate includes a main baseplate and a secondary baseplate each of which has a bottom surface and the bottom surfaces are coplanar. At least a part of the blade passes though a slot formed in the main baseplate. The main baseplate includes a first edge and a second edge disposed on opposing sides of the blade. The secondary baseplate has at least two exchangeable positions. In a first position, the secondary baseplate is jointed or adjacent to the first edge of the main baseplate and, in a second position, the secondary baseplate is joined or adjacent to the second edge of the main baseplate.

    • The present invention provides a technique for improving the workability of a cutting tool. According to the present invention, a cutting tool may comprise a body, a base, a sub-base and a parallel ruler. The body may have a blade that can be rotationally driven. The base may be connected to the body, while the base is placed in contact with the upper surface of the workpiece. The body may tilt in a pivotal movement about an axis substantially parallel to the cutting direction such that a cutting operation can be performed with the blade projecting laterally outward from a side of the base. The sub-base may be removably attached to the base on the side from which the blade projects. The parallel ruler may be removably attached to the base on the side on which the sub-base is attached or on the opposite side of the base, together with the sub-base or in the state in which the sub-base is not attached.

    • The present invention is a saw guiding device for guiding a power saw when cutting a workpiece in the form of either a flat board or an I-beam. The saw guiding device comprises a base member which is to be disposed across end caps of an I-beam. A straight saw guiding surface of the base member is configured such that a power saw can be engaged therewith and slidably moved therealong to thereby guide the power saw in a straight line as it cuts the I-beam. The base member includes an upwardly facing saw supporting surface disposed adjacent the straight saw guiding surface. The upwardly facing saw supporting surface is constructed and arranged to support the power saw as it is engaged with and slidably moved along the straight saw guiding surface between the end caps of the I-beam. The base member has a workpiece edge engaging structure extending downwardly therefrom. A movable workpiece edge engaging structure is constructed and arranged to be moved through a range of operative positions. The movable workpiece engaging structure is fixable at various locations within the operative range. Both the workpiece edge engaging structure and the movable workpiece edge engaging structure are simultaneously engageable with one edge of an I-beam end cap when the base member is disposed across the end caps and the workpiece engaging structure is fixed at one of the various locations of the range of operative positions to set a desired cutting angle at which the straight saw guiding surface is disposed.
