The improved metal barrier is formed in such manner as to enable it to repeatedly expand and contract in concert with the elastic movements of the prophylactic device during its intended use, without fracture or breaking of the barrier metal layer. A number of processes for manufacturing the improved device are given, including initially stretching the elastic membrane of the device to the extent of its intended use, and vapor depositing a ductile metal in a thin, continuous coating onto the stretched membrane.

The article exhibits a "self-healing" property to impede fluid leakage despite preexisting, or later formed, pinholes or other small openings through the layers. In the method, the base layer is initially stretched before applying an intimately adhered, thinner overlayer of elastomeric material, thereby to provide a stressed interface between the two adhered layers. 摘要： A sealed package contains a glove of the type worn by medical practitioners when one or more fingers must be inserted into openings in a patient's body and also contains a supply of lubricant for the glove in a separate sealed compartment. The package is formed by sheets of material bonded along zones that define two compartments, the bonding being weaker than the material itself enabling one sheet to be peeled away from the other to open both compartments with one motion of the hands. The package further contains a glove holder which spreads the cuff of the glove to facilitate entry of a hand and which also protects the outer surface of the glove from contamination during the process of putting the glove on.

摘要： A method of and apparatus for dispensing rubber gloves in an aseptic condition for insertion of the hands of a user. The gloves to be dispensed are contained within a chamber in a suitable housing provided with hand holes for a user. The gloves are attached to a continuous web of material provided with an aperture at each glove attachment for insertion of a hand of the user. Each glove is covered by a packaging film that is lightly perforated at each glove. The gloves are fed intermittently into registry with the hand holes in the housing. The user activates a vacuum pressure which is in fluid communication with the hand holes causing the gloves to expand and rupture through the film of packaging material. The user inserts his hands, deactivates the vacuum pressure, thrusts his hands further into the housing to detach a temporary retention of the gloves and removes his hands from the housing with the gloves aseptically applied.
