A manually operable drive means is mounted on the chair frame and a linkage type lost motion means connects the drive means and the actuating means. The lost motion means permits the seat and leg rest to move relative to the chair frame and drive means without affecting the ability of the drive means and actuating means to extend or retract the leg rest.

摘要： A seat construction including a main frame having front and rear portions is provided together with a first seat section overlying the frame, a second back rest section projecting upwardly from the rear of said frame and a third leg rest section depending downwardly from the forward portion of the first section. The first section is supported from the frame for shifting to a forward position projecting forwardly of the main frame, the second back rest section has its lower portion pivotally supported from the first section and enjoys a supportive link connection with the frame for automatic movement to a lowered horizontal position disposed immediately to the rear of and in horizontal alignment with the first section upon its movement to its forward displaced position, and the third leg rest section has its upper portion pivotally supported from the forward end of the first section and enjoys a thrust transmitting connection with the second section for automatic movement of the leg rest section to a second raised horizontal position horizontally aligned with the first section upon movement of the first and second sections to their second positions. Furthermore, the first section and frame include coacting structure guidingly and supportingly engaging the first section from the forward portion of the frame during shifting movement of the first seat section and operative to slightly lower the forward portion of the seat section upon movement of the first section to its forward position, the forward portion of the seat section including depending legs for engagement with the support surface upon which the frame rests when the first section is in its forward position.

摘要： A reclining chair has a frame and a seat fixedly and immovably secured to the frame. A back is pivotally mounted to the rear of the frame and extends downwardly beneath the seat. A leg rest is pivotally mounted to the front of the frame and includes an inwardly curved portion at the top thereof which extends beneath the seat. The lower part of the back is connected to the curved portion of the leg rest through a link member such that movement of either the back or the leg rest imparts movement to the other. The connections between the link member, the back, the leg rest and the frame are such as to provide an over-center safety lock which prevents the chair from being accidentially moved from its upright position into its reclining position. Built-in stop mechanisms in the link connection limit the full upright and full reclining positions of the chair.

摘要： The chair back is reclined independently of movement of the footrest which is operated by a handle. Detents associated with the handle mechanism allow the footrest to be extended and retracted into any four positions including fully extended, fully retracted and two intermediate positions. As the back is reclined, the seat and arms which constitute a unit, are first tilted to a predetermined ''''bucketing'''' angle by the locking mechanism, forward rocking is inhibited then rearward rocking is also prevented by the novel locking mechanism. The locking mechanism mounts on the underside of the cam frame, between the cams and works off a torque tube that moves angularly about its long axis as the footrest is operated and which moves forward and upwardly and rotates angularly as the chair back is reclined. The seat and frame unit also move forwardly and upwardly as the chair is reclined. In the preferred form, the chair is a platform rocker; it may also be mounted on a swivel platform rocker base. The back is provided with tapered sleeves which fit over tapered tongues on the mechanism to allow the chair to be shipped knocked down, and then set-up. The footrest includes two sections which store one behind the other when retracted, then move to coplanar relationship as the footrest is extended to its first position to provide greater extension. The lazy tongs action of the footrest extending and retracting part of the mechanism is skewed to permit exposed front rail and/or high leg styling for the base. The design of the mechanism permits a particularly cushioning seat filling to be used.
