    • In a method of manufacturing heat radiating fin, the technique of plastic working, such as stamping, is employed to apply an external force against a sheet metal material serving as a raw material for forming the heat radiating fin, so that the sheet metal material generates plastic deformation to form a plurality of recessed portions on a front side thereof. Meanwhile, a plurality of protruded portions is correspondingly formed on a rear side of the sheet metal material behind the recessed portions. Any two heat radiating fins so manufactured may be easily stacked and connected together with the protruded portions on a rear or higher heat radiating fin partially extended into the recessed portions on a front or lower heat radiating fin.

    • Systems and methods for improving heat exchangers by implementing self-energizing seals. In one embodiment, a U-tube heat exchanger includes a shell enclosure, a tube sheet, a closure and a set of tubes welded to the tube sheet. The tube sheet separates first and second chambers from a third chamber in the shell enclosure. The closure seals the first and second chambers. Each tube extends from the first chamber, through the third chamber to the second chamber. The improvement comprises a seal between the shell enclosure and either the closure or the tube sheet. The seal includes conically tapered sealing surfaces on the shell enclosure and closure or tube sheet which form a wedge-shaped gap. A seal ring having surfaces complementary to the sealing surfaces of the shell enclosure and closure or tube sheet is positioned between the sealing surfaces to form a self-energized seal.

    • A tube expanding apparatus includes mandrels, each mandrel having a billet on a leading end; a reciprocating actuator for supporting rear ends of the mandrels, the reciprocating actuator being supported to reciprocate in an axial direction of hairpin tube straight portions; a pressure cylinder for raising and lowering the reciprocating actuator and expanding the straight portions by pressing the billets into the hairpin tube straight portions; hairpin receivers for supporting curved portions of hairpin tubes; a fin receiver for supporting a lower end portion of the laminated radiating fins; and a hydraulic cylinder for raising and lowering the fin receiver in the axial direction of the hairpin tube straight portions. The hydraulic cylinder lowers the fin receiver to a predetermined position as the mandrels descend and the billets begin to be inserted into the hairpin tubes.
