UPON RECEIPT BY A FIRST RECEIVER OF A REFLECTED PULSE FROM AN OBJECT IN THE REGION, THE SAWTOOTH GENERATOR IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE FIRST SET OF DEFLECTION PLATES AND THE BIAS ON THE FIRST SET OF DEFLECTION PLATES IS DECREASED IN A COSINE FUNCTION. AT THE SAME TIME, THE BIAS ON THE OTHER SET OF DEFLECTION PLATES SUCH AS THE HORIZONTAL PLATES, IS INCREASED IN A SINE WAVE FUNCTION. WHEN A SECOND RECEIVER RECEIVES A REFLECTED PULSE FROM THE OBJECT IN THE REGION, THE GUN OF THE CATHODE RAY TUBE IS OPERATED TO INCREASE THE INTENSITY OF THE DISPLAY TO SHOW A BLIP INDICATIVE OF THE RELATIVE LOCATION OF THE OBJECT. ALSO, THE SAWTOOTH WAVEFORM IS REIMPRESSED ONTO THE FIRST SET OF DEFLECTION PLATES WHEN THE SECOND RECEIVER RECEIVES A PULSE.

    • An ultrasonic tracking and locating system in which an identification code number is programmed on a console keyboard to activate an encoder which transmits a plurality of coded pulses to a plurality of transceiver units located in the rooms of a building where surveillance is desired. A transducer in the transceiver transmits a coded, ultrasonic digital signal which is dispersed throughout the room. Portable pocket unit transceivers carried by persons to be located receive the transmitted ultrasonic signals and decode the signals to determine if they correspond to the pocket unit''s identification code. If the signal corresponds to the pre-programmed code, the pocket unit transmits a single ultrasonic pulse which is received by the room transceiver and is transmitted back to the console, where a display converter activates a digital readout display to provide a visual, numerical indication of the location of the person.

    • An underwater communications system is provided that transmits electromagnetic and/or magnetic signals to a remote receiver. The transmitter includes a data input. A digital data compressor compresses data to be transmitted. A modulator modulates compressed data onto a carrier signal. An electrically insulated, magnetic coupled antenna transmits the compressed, modulated signals. The receiver that has an electrically insulated, magnetic coupled antenna for receiving a compressed, modulated signal. A demodulator is provided for demodulating the signal to reveal compressed data. A de-compressor de-compresses the data. An appropriate human interface is provided to present transmitted data into text/audio/visible form. Similarly, the transmit system comprises appropriate audio/visual/text entry mechanisms.
