摘要： A 3D image display includes a display panel operated in 2D and 3D driving modes and a barrier panel turned off in the 2D driving mode and turned on in the 3D driving mode to separate an image output from the display panel to left and right-eye images. The barrier panel includes a reference electrode, first barrier electrodes arranged in a first direction, second barrier electrodes alternately arranged with the first barrier electrodes along the first direction, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the reference electrode and the first and second barrier electrodes. Each first barrier electrode includes first electrode pieces arranged in a zigzag fashion along a second direction different from the first direction, and each second barrier electrode includes second electrode pieces arranged in the zigzag fashion.

摘要： An image display apparatus includes a display layer and an image separation layer. The image separation layer is adapted to separate a displayed image on the display layer into a first image for a left eye of an observer and into a second image for a right eye of an observer. This renders the image display apparatus autostereoscopic. In order to improve the appearance of the displayed image, the apparatus is adapted to activate the display layer and the image separation layer substantially only within a given two-dimensional silhouette and to remain substantially transparent outside of the silhouette. In other aspects, the apparatus may be adapted to dynamically adjust an observation angle between the first image and the second image by controlling the distance between the display layer and the image separation layer by an actuator. The apparatus may be mounted on a robotic unit.

A parallax barrier in a shutter panel is controlled to be arranged optimally in accordance with the distance between the viewer and a display panel. Specifically, an optimal parallax barrier is formed as appropriate by selectively switching a light-transmitting state and a light-shielding state of a plurality of optical shutter regions and a display element unit of pixels depending on a retention state. The retention state is realized in such a manner that at least one of electrodes between which a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched is connected to a transistor including a semiconductor layer containing an oxide semiconductor and the transistor is turned off.
