摘要： Apparatus and process for searching for an area code from an exchange/area code directory and inserting an area code into a dialed telephone number. The inserted area code is based on the three digit exchange prefix of the dialed telephone number. An area code insertion module includes at least one entry comprising an association between an exchange number and an area code. A controller compares the digits corresponding to the exchange of a seven digit dialed telephone number with entries in the exchange/area code directory. The controller adds the resultant area code obtained from the exchange/area code directory together with any other special dialing digits required to dial such a telephone number before the digits of the dialed telephone number. A DTMF generator causes the completed telephone number to be presented to the telephone line and central office. The area code insertion module and/or the exchange/area code directory may be maintained at the customer premises equipment or at the central office. The entries in the exchange/area code directory may be pre-stored by the user or downloaded over the public switched telephone network, e.g., from a central office.

摘要： A technique for parsing numbers on a display in a wireless communication device utilizes a data storage area containing data related to the dialing plan for the particular location of the user, such as a country. A parser receives the number and applies the number digit by digit to the data in the dialing plan storage area to determine whether the number corresponds to a known telephone number format for the particular country. If the number corresponds to a known format, one of a predetermined number of parsing formatting characters are applied to the number and the number with formatting characters is shown on a display. The user may edit the formatting characters to customize the format for personal preferences. The number may be provided to the parser by manual entry of digits by the user via a keypad, or may be automatically provided to the parser by user selection of a number in a telephone book storage area, a call history storage area, or the like. The number may also be provided to the wireless communication device from a remote location. Numbers, such as caller ID, callback numbers, and the like may be automatically provided to the parser.

摘要： A cellular radiotelephone system (10) includes mobile stations (28) which may be remotely programmed from a customer activation system (12) to effect activation and other programming needs. Mobile stations (28) are manufactured in a blank form that causes them to operate only in an inactive state. During activation, information describing the mobile station's electronic serial number (ESN) is collected along with area of use information. A mobile identification number (MIN) is assigned in response to the area of use information. A page message is directed to the mobile station operating in its inactive state, but the page message references the mobile station's ESN. While inactive, the mobile station (28) detects pages directed to its ESN. A remote programming session is then performed wherein digital user-specific programming data, including the newly assigned MIN, are transferred to the mobile station (28) over a voice channel using a control channel protocol (80).

摘要： A telecommunications interface system is operably coupled to customer premises termination equipment such as a telephone or facsimile machine for controlling signal transmissions to and from a public or private communication network. The interface system can be incorporated into the termination equipment, or can be contained in a housing that is externally connected between the termination equipment and a wall jack providing access to the telecommunications network. The interface system has a memory device for storing data representative of information such as long distance access codes and service providers. Each access code provides access to a long distance service provided by a service provider. A data processing system is provided that performs data processing functions on data stored in the memory device. The interface system also includes a visual display device for displaying information relating to one of the long distance providers based upon data stored in the memory device. Two push-button switches allow a user to change provider information displayed on the display device by scrolling through provider information stored in the memory device. When a desired provider is displayed, the user selects that carrier by pressing a carrier push-button switch. The system then transmits a dial signal indicating the access code for the selected service to the network. Push-button switches are provided that trigger the system to dial preprogrammed area code information stored in the memory device when pressed. Additional push-button switches trigger the system to dial preprogrammed toll free codes also stored in the memory device when pressed.

摘要： A call-back service is disclosed having reduced post-dial delay. When a caller (12) initiates dialing of an international number of a called party (14), a dialer (28) monitors the dialed digits. Upon detecting a code corresponding to an international number, the dialer immediately launches a call to a node (16) in the caller's local exchange (18) while retaining the digits dialed by the calling party. The node then signals a call-back service platform (24) in a call back-country via a frame relay link (22) to launch a call through an ISDN network (26) back to the dialer. Thereafter, the dialer sends the digits to the call-back service platform which then launches a second call to the called party. The first and second calls are then bridged. By launching the call from the dialer upon detecting an international code in the number dialed by the calling party, the post dial delay is reduced.
