    • A color selection electrode and a method of producing the same, for a high definition cathode ray tube with a finer pitch of mask apertures free from limitations due to the thickness of the iron-alloy plate of the mask. The method comprising, the steps of depositing a first resist on both a surface of an iron-alloy plate comprised of a low carbon steel plate, a surface facing an electron gun (small diameter side) and another surface facing a phosphor screen (large diameter side) and patterning the resist by photolithography; forming an electrodeposited metal layer on portions of the electron gun side of the iron-alloy plate where the first resist is not formed; depositing a second resist on the entire surface of the iron-alloy plate which is directed to the electron gun side to cover the first resist and the electrodeposited metal layer; using the first resist as a mask and etching the surface of the iron-alloy plate which is directed to the phosphor screen side; and removing the first resist and the second resist.

    • A method and apparatus for forming an insulator 62 on one major surface of a uniaxial tension focus mask 25 includes the steps of: positioning a mask sheet 27, having a multiplicity of openings 42 that extend from a first major surface of the mask sheet through a main body portion thereof to an oppositely disposed second major surface, at a distance from a charging gun 72, 172 having a source 74, 174 of a dry-powdered insulative material; charging and directing the dry-powdered insulative material toward the first major surface of the mask to provide a coating of the charged, dry-powdered insulative material thereon, and providing means 70, 272 for preventing the charged, dry-powdered insulative material from extending into the openings 42 and being deposited onto the main body portion of the mask surrounding the openings and the second major surface. The mask sheet 27, with the charged, dry-powdered insulative material on the first major surface thereof, is then heated to a temperature sufficient to sinter the insulative material. An apparatus for practicing this method also is described.

    • A method of forming an electron reflecting layer on a perforated shadow mask in a color cathode ray tube, which method comprises the steps of preparing an aqueous suspension containing water glass and powdered bismuth oxide, applying the suspension by the use of a spraying technique to one of opposite surfaces of the perforated shadow mask which confronts a color electron gun assembly within the color cathode ray tube, thereby to form an electron reflecting coating, and drying the coating to complete the electron reflecting layer. The aqueous suspension is prepared by adding to water both the powdered bismuth oxide of 0.1 to 1.0 .mu.m in average particle size in a quantity within the range of 20 to 45 percent by weight relative to the total weight of the aqueous suspension and the water glass having a solid component within the range of 25 to 30 percent by weight relative to the total weight of the water glass, the amount of the water glass added to the water being within the range of 37.5 to 62.5 percent by weight relative to the amount of the powdered bismuth oxide used.

C. and the second region to a temperature in the range of 100.degree. to 300.degree. C.

    • A method of manufacturing a focusing shadow mask for a color cathode ray tube is disclosed in which two conductive plates or surfaces, forming the electrode structure, are secured together by insulating material so that they do not contact each other. Strips or columns of insulating material are accurately located with respect to the matrix of apertures formed in the focus mask by etching cavities which may be in the form of grooves within at least one of the plates forming the electrode structure between adjacent aperture areas, and filling such accurately positioned cavities with a dielectric frit material, and then after firing such frit material etching away the surface of the plate so as to provide raised strips or pillars of insulator material firmly bonded and embedded in the mask structure. Finally, a conductive surface film or second conductive plate is provided on the raised insulating frit material by depositing a film of conductive metallic material on the surface of the frit, such as aluminum deposited by an evaporation technique, or by bonding such second conductive plate to the surface of the insulating frit material.
