    • In a function switching device for an information processing apparatus, a function switching unit is mounted to a DIP switch. The DIP switch is arranged to face the mounting port-side edge of a printed circuit board, mounted in the information processing apparatus, to be parallel to the edge. A control unit outputs a function switching signal to the function switching unit. A signal cable connects the function switching unit and the control unit. The function switching unit includes a pair of clip segments, a pivot shaft, springs, resetting distal end, and a plurality of contacts. The pivot shaft pivotally supports both the clip segments. The springs normally bias both the clip segments in a closed direction. The resetting distal end is provided at the central portion of the front side of one clip segment. When the function switching unit is mounted to the board, the resetting distal end resets knobs of the DIP switch to an initial state. The plurality of contacts are arranged to extend forward from the other clip segment. When the function switching unit is mounted to the DIP switch, the plurality of contacts are brought into contact with the leads of switch contacts of the DIP switch that project from the rear surface of the board.

    • A lock having depending sides with holes therein is snap fit attached to a rocker actuator by causing the sides to straddle the actuator and the holes to receive beveled lateral tabs on the actuator, the holes being longer than the tabs to permit and define sliding movement of the lock on the actuator. Four feet depend from the depending sides of the lock within a housing opening in which the actuator is pivotally mounted to abuttingly align with corresponding abutments in the housing on opposite sides of the pivotal axis of the actuator, preventing rotational movement of the actuator when the lock is in a first position with respect thereto under the bias of a compression spring. The actuator is released by sliding the lock against the bias of the spring to move the feet radially offset from the abutments, thereby permitting rotational movement of the actuator in either direction, actuating corresponding switch contacts.

    • An electrical switch includes a rocker-type actuator adapted to be pivoted between first and second positions within a housing in order to close and open switch contacts. The actuator carries a latch which normally engages the housing to prevent the actuator from being pivoted to its switch-closed position. By pulling on the latch and then lifting on the actuator, the actuator may be pivoted to its switch-closed position; the two-step operation protecting against accidental actuation of the switch. The actuator may be returned to its switch-open position by a simple single motion thereby enabling rapid opening of the switch under emergency conditions. In one embodiment, the latch cannot be moved to an unlatched position and the switch cannot be actuated unless an authorized person with a key connects the key detachably to the latch.

    • A device for controlling the selective switching on and off of the supply of current to an electric appliance of a premises, particularly a hotel room, includes a door lock having a bolt and a keeper to be mounted in a door and a door frame of an entrance to the premises such that the bolt is movable between first and second locked positions extending into the keeper and an unlocked position withdrawn from the keeper. An electric circuit connects a source of electric current to the electric appliance, and the circuit includes a switch normally closed to allow current to be supplied from the source to the appliance and operable to be opened to interrupt the supply of current from the source to the appliance. The switch is disposed in the keeper. The door lock includes first key-actuated structure, operable only from the exterior of the door, for moving the bolt between the unlocked position and the first locked position, whereat the bolt extends into the keeper by an amount sufficient to open the switch and thereby interrupt the supply of current from the source to the appliance. The door lock additionally includes second key-actuated structure, operable only from the interior of the door, for moving the bolt between the unlocked position and the second locked position, whereat the bolt extends into the keeper by an amount sufficient to lock the door lock but insufficient to open the switch, such that the switch remains closed and current remains supplied from the source to the appliance.

    • A spring switch for electronic circuits and a method for making same are disclosed. The spring switch employs a coil spring having a helical wind of a plurality of coil turns. The diameter of the coil spring is selected to receive, between two adjacent coil turns, two legs of a dual in-line packaged, integrated circuit. The integrated circuit is mounted, top down, on a plate which has an electrically conductive surface. An electrical circuit having two open circuit terminals has one terminal connected to the electrically conductive surface. The second open circuit terminal is electrically connected to the electrically conductive coil spring. A cam mechanism depresses a free end of the coil spring and wipes the free end against the electrically conductive surface to complete the circuit.

    • An electrical rocker switch of the type having a removable actuator key to prevent turning the switch "on" when the key is removed, such switch having a rockable carrier member for operating switching bridge structure, a rocker member mounted cooperatively with said carrier member in a switch casing and with each such two members being movable independently of the other about a common axis. The removable key couples the rocker member and carrier member so that all three are then operated together as a coupled structure by actuation of such key, said switch having contact means for two different circuits, with the key member when inserted into the carrier-rocker members in one direction accomplishing the operation of the contact means to close one of said two circuits through the switch, and with removal of the key member, rotation thereof through 180.degree. about an axis at right angles to said common axis and then reinsertion in the carrier-rocker members in that rotated position coupling said two members for actuation by the key member when it is moved in the opposite direction to close the other circuit. The key member has a portion engageable with stop means with the switch to limit the key member movement in the direction of such movement until it is stopped, having closed the selected one of said two different circuits in an "on" position in such moving. The switch cannot be operated to a different circuit "on" position with the key removed.
